Is it me or is the international call checker wrong for calls to a landline in India on Sky?

As far as I can tell, at least for the cheapest 2 numbers on the list, the cost is 2.5p/min not 0.5p/min.

From Sky using 1899 1p a minute plus 4p connection via freephone number looks good.

You missed the end part of the previous message - using 1899, 18185 or 18866 from a Sky landline is perfectly possible using the 0808 access number each provides.

In the case of 1899, it is 0808 1 708 708 and, using that, calls to India from a Sky landline cost the same as using the 1899 prefix from a BT line (4p connection + 1p/minute).
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

Honestly, I looked earlier and it said 0.5p/min but it's changed now, weird!

    Try reading my post again.;)

1899 is useable from Sky Talk and from other providers who block indirect access codes via the 0808 freephone number or the 020 number.

Ok got it, usable just not the lowest 1899 prices.
  • Topupnow have very low rates but you have to top up your phone with credit to use it. Be aware that to do this you have to call a premium rate number which will cost you £1.50 a call.

As Ypaymore said in Post #323 and as I said in Post #325 above, the cost of a call to India is exactly the same whether you are able to call using the 1899 prefix or whether you have to use the 0808 1 708 708 number (4p connection + 1p/minute).

AIUI, calling the 0911 number produces a credit of £1.50 which can be used for the 5p per call set up fee, so good for 30 calls.

The cost of calling the number depends on the provider. I've been unable to find out how much that is from a BT line. Sorry, I find BT's so-called 'help' pages incomprehensible. Sadly my mobile provider (Ovivo) doesn't support premium calls.

Does anybody know how much a BT call to TopUpNow costs? Thanks.
