    Hi all
I am currently calling Grenada mobile from a BT landine, I have been using the access numbers without a problem up until a couple of weeks ago when despite using the different companies no calls would get through to the destination number. Can anyone suggest what might be going wrong please?

Given that you are experiencing problems with various access numbers,it sounds like a problem with the target number not being available for some reason.

Thankyou for the reply, the thing is there is no problem at all when i dial the target number direct from my landline i get through straight away, but this is a very expensive option for me hence my use of access numbers as a much cheaper option. I make calls daily and can sometimes be speaking for anything between 10 mins to 1hr upwards. If i cannot resolve problem with the access numbers i guess i will have to seek the next cheaper option, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If its not target number it will be the access numbers.Nine times out of Ten what appear to be different companies are the same two, using same eqpt, different names ,charging you different rates to connect you.

As it says on the call checker

    "These are no-frills providers
If line quality is poor, or capacity limited simply avoid it and pick the next cheapest."

Dont forget with these 08/09 providers you pay even if they don't answer.
When you dial the access number, you're paying as soon as you hear recorded announcement even if your not connected, the person called is out, or engaged.

Do you have inclusive minutes with BT . If so consider using http://www.localphone.com/prices#country,gd where they point a 01/02 number direct at your target mobile. So for starters you dont pay if you dont get through.

This is very true. Many of the companies listed on MSE Callchecker are the same company but with different names.

If you're having an issue with a telephone number, make sure that the next number you dial does not share the middle three digits as the one you're having problems with. If the number does share those digits in the middle, you will be using the exact same lines and the exact same equipment as before.

    Does that make sense?
  • @oldharryrocks Yes I do have some inclusive BT mins so I will certainly have a look at the localphone site as my many attempts to get through using the access numbers on failed to connect calls incurred costs that i was far from happy with when my bill arriived

Yes that does make quite a lot of sense, and it may be me being a bit cynical but perhaps these companies having noticed the volume and duration of calls i made could quite possibly try and move me onto a higher pence per min access number safe in the knowledge that i am a frequent user of their service?? So once one price bracket is blocked or unavailable for me say at 13p per min to get through on, maybe the presumption is that i will simply continue through the list? Hmmmmm i wonder.... but even so i still have a budget i need to stick to. I daresay the providers at 19p and 25p per min are reliable but alas out of my budget unfortunately.
  • I used one of the numbers on this website ( cheap international calls) to call a mobile in Colombia from my lanldine. I used 0844 439 1515 followed by the Colombian mobile number. Now I can't use my landline and keep getting the message " You are being automatically diverted to talk talk in connection with this account." How did this happen, how do I stop it and how do I get my Primus landline back to normal? Did anyone else have this problem when using these 0844 numbers? Help and advice appreciated asap.

    Good advice!
I have been using localphone.com for few years. They offer many ways to call.
To call from landline use inclusive minutes from BT, as advised.
Or use Ovivomobile.com who offer 150 mins free every month plus 250 texts and 500 MB data every month. You have to pay £15 to get a SIM but you get that back as credit.
Cheapest way to use Localphone.com is to use wi-fi or free data such as from Ovivo. For this, they have an app you can download to your mobile.
A VoIP phone can also be used.

You don't work for them, do you? ;)

Don't know if anyone mentioned togglemobile.co.uk here but they have a SIM for travellers with huge savings compared to roaming charges.
You get 9 numbers for use in 9 different countries. Same rate of 3p landline, 9p Mobile, 9p per text when in any of these countries. Same for calling back to UK.
I have'nt used them as yet so this is not a recomendation.

Like to hear from anyone who has.
No 'newbies' or 'trolls' please ;)
