JackieO - I have been following your careful and generous plans for the trip. i'm so sorry that it didn't work out the way you had planned. You are such a lovely lady and I'm so sure your family really appreciates all you do for them. Sorry to hear of your DD's redundancy.
Hope all those planning to travel to be with loved ones manage to get there safely.
Sunny here but very cold. Dsis and her OH are travelling from Heathrow to Edinburgh on Thurs and then driving up to Aberdeenshire to be with her in-laws. Hoping she makes it as we meet up here on Thurs night for a meal. They are looking at possibility of train now.
DD coming round to help me get myself organised with wrapping presents. DH going out to look for hall light fittings. He did this yesterday as well. What is it with men that they think this is important a couple of days before Christmas? Anyway, I went to 2 shops with him yesterday but won't be light shopping today!!
Have made list of fresh stuff i need so might pop to supermarket tonight and then will be done.
watched Albert Finney's Scrooge last night. We watch it every year and then know that Christmas has arrived. DD and her OH came round too so we had wine and nibbles with it. Loved it!! A walk through the park in the snow with the doggies afterwards was lovely.
Ok, off to have more tea!

  • Afternoon All,

I was up and at 'em early this morning, went into town with my DSIS as I needed a few things from WHSmith and wanted to go before it got busy, then I had my weekly hospital appointment. I am now cooking lunch for the boys and DH is collecting them for me. DS1 has his Christmas party this afternoon so they wanted to have lunch at home so that he could get changed into his gladrags. :D DSisIL/BFF is arriving this afternoon with my darling niece, and I am off to the airport to collect them at 2 - their flight is scheduled to arrive at 3.25, but I want to give myself plenty of time to get there just in case. So, so excited to see them, and give them a big hug!

JackieO so glad you still managed to have a lovely time, and that you're back safe and sound and warm at home.

Mioliere, hope the news comes soon and is positive for your sis and her husband.xx

Pollys thinking of you today, although I know you probably won't see this.

Molly41, you sound fine ;) still got plenty fire in your belly anyway! :rotfl: Hope you get home for Saturday.xxx

Hugs spoons and hi5's for everyone else, hope Redruby's sister gets home too.

    Jackie XXX

PS Bitsy, I replied to your PM thanks but I am a bit confused, more info needed please! :D

Molly...... Chin up hun, they usually kick as many out of hospital as they can before Christmas so I hope you get home soon ((((((Hugs)))))) x x

We have had a couple of light snow showers today and the forecast is for heavy snow later.

House is clean and tidy and I have made a lot of nibbles because we have a few friends coming round tonight for a Christmas drink, so a quick dinner tonight of egg and chips.

Well I had better get my shower now

Keep warm and safe everyone x
DD doesn't finish work until 6.30pm tonight - I just hope she gets home before the snow gets here.

Molly - big hugs to you (((hugs)))

Mioliere, fingers crossed and big hugs too for the family

Taplady - here's hoping. (((hugs))) to you.

As for me, I've been suffering with a really nasty, grotty cold/virus since this time last week which included losing my voice for a couple of days. Not good when you're trying to control a class of 30 excitable 6 and 7 year olds! Thank goodness we broke up from school last Friday and I've been trying to recover since then.

Our Christmas tree is up and I just need to vacuum underneath before putting presents underneath. Well, I need to put the presents from me to DH underneath... goodness knows whether DH has bought any of mine. Top of my list was the latest Take That CD. I'm a very cheap date, me! :D

I do need to get some bits and pieces sorted for next week as we're away with friends at a cottage in Yorkshire... we're each taking two main meals each, so DH made chilli con carne last night and I need to make a coq au vin (from a Good Food recipe). On DH's return from work tonight, I have plans to go to Mr T's and buy wine (extra points voucher, naturally!).

In the meantime, I need to sort out a few things - cutting and shredding the addresses from envelopes, putting up today's delivery of cards. We're lucky to have so many good friends.

    Take care EVERYONE.

Well the longest night is 'on' so from now on it gets lighter and we will soon be bathed in spring sunshine! always look on the bright side!
Been a quite sunny warm day here--i went out on my motorbike for a cruise. İ do feel for you all in your time of duress with this weather-i sense this isnt the kind of white xmas that gets sung about in the 'records'!--it always seems romantic but they dont have plans to travel or shopping to do!!-
-i am working as usual on Saturday but my senses will want to be with my English kin stuffing my face and watching too much tv!-only bad part of all the snow and xmas day is that there will be no premier league for me to relax with! i might treat Mrs De and dsd to a meal out in celebration--but dont tell them because i am not a happy dad today because Mrs De has had a cob on!!
    mfw'11 No68- 55k mortgage İO--little to nothing saved! i must do better.

Hi everyone, hope you're all not too stressed out!!

Not been on in a week or so as I've gone to my Mums for Christmas so haven't been doing as much cooking etc as usual. Glad I came through last Wednesday as I managed to avoid all the snow, which is exactly why I rushed through on Weds evening rather than take my time and get stuck on Thursday!
Today I marzipanned my 2 Christmas cakes, and I did a big batch on mince pies on Sunday which we're still eating as my mum made Rice Pudding and Pannetonne Bread & Butter Pudding at the weekend as well. Having a big roast chicken for dinner tonight, which will be transformed into curry and savoury rice for the next couple of days. Cleaned a load of mould off the table that the Christmas tree lives on the other day which was fun . Will attack the mouldy shower later in the week.

    evening everyone

Very cold grey day here, sposed to be getting some more snow tonight.

Horrible 2 days at work, trying to fit in 2 weeks work into 2 days to ensure people get paid on new years eve, not good times!

Have work do tomorrow night, not the official one which aparently was a bit of a wash out, people travelling 10 hours then turning round, I had no intention of going even before the snow! Our local boss decided we should go out for a curry tomorrow night and guess who ended up organising it? curry house wanted £5 deposit each, no way was I paying out £55, rang today and told them I only had £20 but he said not to worry, I have promised that if they all cancel I will drag random people in off the street and make them eat :rotfl: he laughed at that :D

JackieO, glad you enjoyed Liverpool despite the weather and the match cancellation. When you go back, do go to Albert Dock, I bet your lads will love the maritime museum there (all free :D) we actually stayed at the Holiday Inn Express at Albert Dock, it's built inside one of the old warehouses there, you can still see all the old iron doors inside, was very impressed. We walked round at night and everywhere was all lit up. Sorry to go on, I just loved it there :D

OH is out fixing car for the weekend, am hoping with all my might that we get down to my family, otherwise its bolognaise for xmas dinner :rotfl:I have rather a lot of portions in the freezer.

Hugs and wishes for all the poorlies and sorelies and those with poorly relatives.

Oh :o OS wise, HM soup for lunch, one of those endless bolognaises from the freezer for tea, One lot of washing in machine as I type, one lot dried and needs ironing. and thats as good as it gets! trying to let the stress out ready for the weekend, but still have very busy day ahead at work tomorrow.

one of our offices don't seem to understand the words the-timesheets-have-to-be-in-on-Tuesday. One good thing, my manager has been helping as workmate on hols, I explained that this happens every fortnight, its not just because its xmas.

Have a good evening everyone xxx

I want to see the lunar eclipse - it is today, isn't it? I usually have a perfect view of the moon from my kitchen window in the mornings, but it's really cloudy and I can't see a thing :( However, if that cloud is full of snow and it falls today, it will forgive it :D

    Tru
    - I was hoping to see it too, but it was too cloudy. However it did turn the sky a beautiful shade of pinky red here.

Our printer died yesterday,so we really need to get a new one asap,as I have some work to do for DH business, invoices etc.keep the money coming in :(

RR - they have good offers in Tesco at moment. 2 different HP printers, one £30 one £40.

I had good day at work. Work kids were planning their presentation which is tomorrow. We had fun whilst they worked and practised. It's their last day tomorrow. Oddly I don't feel that sad about it like normal, there are some I'll be glad not to see again! :rotfl: :o.

I did however feel very ill at one point today . I came over all light-headed :(. I had to go out for some air, and then have a little rest in the office for half hour. I felt better then.

My colleague kindly dropped me home after work (I walked in) and I decided to brave getting the car out and go to Tesco to get all the food for Xmas. The flat's car park is still very snowy and icy so I was a tad worried, but luckily it was ok. All the main roads are fine here now. I got everything I need for Sat apart from yorkshire puddings as they were out of stock. I can pop to the shops again to get those, I'm just glad I got everything else. Only spent £60, which included general food too, so I'm happy with that. I didn't get a real xmas tree though, they only had £20 ones left and TBH I don't want to spend that much when I have an artificial one here. I'll look in the town centre tomorrow but if they have no real ones I'll put the fake one up.

I'm praying for no more snow tomorrow (sorry Bitsy!) as I need to return my 17 seater minibus to the hire company. At the moment it is parked on a hill  I drove by this afternoon and the road is drivable so finger's crossed I'll be ok.

Not much OS here. Dinner was a reduced Innocent Veg thai curry pot from tesco (£1 instead of £3!) but that hasn't touched the sides so may have some toast later. Need to wrap 2 presents tonight but that's it.

Sorry for rambling! have a good evening all
