Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Tue 21st Dec. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.
Morning all
We've had no more snow overnight but it's still very cold.
I blitzed the living room yesterday, it's now tidy, dust free & I even cleaned the windows. I'm not sure what I'll get done today as I have a meeting with the social worker, I have to take all my paperwork for yet another CRB check so I can babysit the foster children.
Liver & bacon for tea tonight with mash & veg & onion gravy, last night I did jerk chicken & rice.
Keep safe & warm everyone.
Hugs Hester

Good morning, Hester, and all who follow.
No snow here in France, but it's a little less cold and we've had lots of rain - but I'm certainly not going to complain, having seen the UK's weather on the news last night. It looks truly horrendous over there, and I hope that you are all managing to keep warm and safe.
BIL is still waiting for test results despite being promised that he would have them yesterday. Sis has been phoning the hospital and leaving lots of messages but hasn't heard back from them yet. I'm just hoping and praying that they get them today.
Dinner tonight is as yet undecided because I forgot to get the meat out of the freezer, so I'd better go and do that now.
Hope you are all coping with the weather and that it starts to improve soon. I know we all say we want a white Christmas but I think everyone's had enough of the snow to last them a lifetime!

It's the most wonderful time of the year :xmassmile
In my calendar - a Christmas pud.
Morning :santa2:
Mioliere, hoping your BIL gets the results today, and that it's good news
I've just had to make my breakfast by torchlight. We've got an old fuseboard that uses fuse wire, the downstairs lights ring wire needs replacing but I'm not going out to the shed at this time of the morning
It took mr tru nearly 3 hours to drive from Cardiff to Newport yesterday (about 15 miles). Once he was on the motorway, it took him another 2 hours to get home. The whole journey usually takes him just over an hour - I don't think he'll be going to work todayMaster tru left for work at 6.30am, everyone was sent home at 9.30am and told to start their Christmas holiday immediately (lots of cheers from the frozen men, lol). The site is up in the Cotswolds, under 15" of snow.
I'm supposed to be going to Morrisons with mum, she still wants to go but I don't think we should. Our road is frozen, it's a major bus route and they stopped the buses at about 6pm last night. Other roads on the way will be much worse, I don't know why she wants to drive? I'll persuade her to stay home. I only need milk, I can get that from my local shop. I'll need to go somewhere in the next few days, I need some fresh food before the weekend. But we can manage without, if we must.
I want to see the lunar eclipse - it is today, isn't it? I usually have a perfect view of the moon from my kitchen window in the mornings, but it's really cloudy and I can't see a thingHowever, if that cloud is full of snow and it falls today, it will forgive it

Morning all,
No snow here. But more rain is on the way. DH is outside mowing now as the grass has just dried from the last lot. We had a massive storm here last week and we didn't have power for 24 hours. We were out visiting my Aunty when it came through and I left all the windows and lourvers open. What a mess to come back to. We've got a generator so was lucky that we didn't lose the cold/frozen stuff.
Moiliere Hope your BIL gets his tests back.
Stay warm everyone. ByeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeDon't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia.0 -
I know we all say we want a white Christmas but I think everyone's had enough of the snow to last them a lifetime!
Nope not me, not by a long shot
Hope your BIL gets his results today xx
Morning my lovelies
DS decided to wake at 5am. Is it any wonder I pick up so many germs when I never seem to get a decent nights sleep
Anyway not many plans for today as I am working full time this week. How awful am I saying this but this week is draggingStarted making pasta wreaths yesterday which was good fun, they're now dry and need to be painted. So that will be today's job. No doubt they'll want to carry on painting too so cue loads of mess!
Still full of snot and mucusfelt shattered last night. Really struggling to feel festive due to lack of energy etc which I loathe as I LOVE Christmas. Just can't muster the enthusiasm at the mo
Anyway enough of my whining. Not sure what's for tea, got plenty of stuff in the freezer.
Might make some biccies today if I get chance.
Hugs, spoons and high fives all round. have a good day OS or not.
Stay safe and wrap up warm xI have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knifeLouise Brooks

Hi,
Im still lying flat on my back in hospital. Yesterday I spent the day crying as some bit*h of a doctor told me I could be here for up to 5 weeks:eek::eek::eek: I then dissolved into tears and she sailed off into the sunset leaving destruction in her wake. Anyway Kids Dad talked to another doctor who told me the plan is to try and get home before xmas. I know it could be worse - and my thoughts go to Mioiliere BIL and all who are dealing with life threatening illness - but i want to be with my family especially at this time of year. Oh and then cue a crisis with DS1 which Kids Dad is dealing with. Never snows but its a blizzard:eek::eek::eek:
So my only bit of OS is to collect the plastic medicine pots - of which there are many - and trying to work out what I can do with them. They are the size of shot glasses so should be useful for something!!
Fingers and everything crossed for Mooloo as she is due to physically move homes today. There was more snow yesterday in our hometown so it will be a real feat to achieve it xxxx
Keep safe my friends xxI must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -
Bitsy - me too I love the snow - I love going outside when it is snowing and just listening to the nothingness, the peace & quiet!
Up early again - due to OHs snoring. Am thinking that we're going to be staying at home for Christmas - plan was to travel to OHs Mum, but don't think that is going to be realistic. So will go through and double check that we have everything that we would like to have. Idea was that we take part and my BIL takes part - so will have to check what we've got. Also have to clear out the fridge so that I can fit the turkey in when it needs defrosting.
Also might need to start on the dining room - as it would be nice to have dinner at the table, not on our knees yet again (grrrr). So I've a lot to do - just need the motivation. Have to admit to not feeling particularly christmassy - will have to start listening to back to back carols again. But have been watching pics of the snow on the TV.
I really feel for all those stuck in airports - its bad enough to be stuck there for the 2 hrs before your flight takes off,....... Love to all xMe, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx
March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.0 -
Morning All!
Mioliere - fingers crossed for your BIL today.
No more snow - but frozen hard. I've certainly had enough and can't wait for it all to disappear - sorry Bitsy! Son's ex-partner and DGD still not away (supposed to be flying from Heathrow!!!) I suspect they will be staying in England for Christmas after all. DS back in hospital this morning, so my tum is churning again!
Need some food still for Christmas, but only what I can carry up from town - no way am I driving at present. Last time I didn't drive for the week or so the snow was lying - and it's somewhat worse this time!!
Have done the little bit of ironing from yesterday - wish I could always deal with it this quickly! Dogs bringing snowy mud indoors so floors in constant need of a mop. Still haven't put the tree up. It does make a difference not having any small kids around.
Oh well, keep safe and as warm as you can, everyone.Resolution:

Morning
Car is still frozen and I am still sick so another day off ( @losing money) I spent yesterday with a burning head and body shaking with cold. very odd. Kids school is closed until new year now so they are pleased with that - although all three little ones have this cold too.
I'm still in bed and dont intend to move...especially as DS1 has just said its -9 out there!
I've taken some painkillers as my head is really sore and they are making me sleepy so I might have a snooze
be back later - stay warm!Climbing back on the OS wagon after a short vacation to Recklessness
