Muffin's never ending story....

Hi all

I joined the site yesterday although I am not an official newbie as I have been a member before, however haven't visited for sometime (naughty naughty!)

So I thought I would get a new name, ready for the new year and my new start :D

I calculated my debts yesterday to roughly £16,000 however this needs to be confirmed, and OH and I working to pay off our debts with the snowball effect in mind.

We are expecting our first child who is due in May and we would love to dent the debt as much as possible before the baby arrives, I will admit that after initially having our LBM in Aug 09 we were really determined to to get the debts down and have paid off SEVEN! however recently we have become a bit loose with money, using Christmas as a way to justify our spending! although I am pleased to say we havent used any credit or anything but still its all money that could have gone towards reducing debts!

We also had a debt company contact OH regarding an outstanding debt from a few years ago - I knew nothing about it and OH had forgot about it. The company had been trying to contact him using his old address (which is his mums house) however she never told him about the post and it was just lucky really that he came across the mountain of letters!! The debt was nearly £400 but luckily we were able to phone up and deal with this and pay it off which is a great achievement, especially as this time last year we wouldn't have a clue what to do and we certainly wouldn't have been in a postion to pay the debt off.

I do have to be honest though when we got our LBM the bulb shattered all over me, my OH's bulb however was just flickering, he doesn't really get the whole debt busting thing, but goes along with it - mainly cos I now handle all the finances so basically he doesnt know what I am doing from one day to the next. OH feels that debt is a way of life and its just the world we live in, however saying that he loves it when I have made an overpayment or when I tell him another debt has been settled - so can't work him out really??

Anyway I seem to have gone on LOADS (sorry!!) I will probably update the diary a silly amount of times but please dont feel obliged to read and reply - it is for my own sanity!

Thanks everyone xxx

  • Thank you for the replies :) I have been watching Kirstie's Homemade Christmas, wish I had seen it sooner some of the things she has made is just beautiful, although I am sure my efforts wouldn't be half as impressive! Also I probably shouldn't watch programmes with nice cottages in as it makes me want one soooo badly :( I might have to start a cottage saving fund, I found a pound ealrier so that could maybe start me off? Lol xx

  • Hello Everyone,

Hope you all had a fantastic Christmas :) I can't believe how quick the years gone :O

Anyway like most people i'm feeling the hit financially from Christmas :-S so i'm tackling this head on ready for the new year! My mum has bought me a family planner calender so I have a column for me / OH and then I have written one for bills, which I am filling in (sounds so simple but something I never did before!!)

I have also decided to put money away each week in time for Christmas 2011 (I dont wanna wish the year away or anything but learning from this years mistakes!) I am going to start this on Friday - my mum and sister do this every year and my sister manages the savings accounts, they ask me to do it but I have always said no but this year im determined!

I'm going to start my £2 collection again - I did this last year but in the summer had to empty it - but did have £100 so thats good!

So important things for the New Year....

    1. Settle my catalogue bill (£99)
    2. Once I have done the above I will start payments a day on the Credit Card.
    3. I need to sign up to the GSCC (£10 - Im currently studying and one of the requirements is to be a member of the social work council)
    4. Need to pay Gas and Electric bill

and their is alot more, but im thinking I should start with small goals and as I tick them off my list I will add more to it, I want to avoid over whelming myself, which is something I have done in the past!

Finally as I have said before I am expecting my first baby in May 11, so I have been joining all the baby clubs for my freebies, and managed to get all my nursery interior in the boxing day sale. Im hoping to get rid of as much debt before baby arrives - and im basically looking out for bargains!

    Anyway thanks for reading xxxx

  • Good luck with everything! Sounds like you've got a good plan. Are you training to be a social worker? Good luck with that it's a fantastic job (hard work but worth it).

Im not sure what is happening with my thread as I cant see my last post?? - I hope it posted? Anyway I have just paid my annual fee of £10 so thats something I can cross off my list.

I have also joined the £365 in 365 days challenge, and after reading the getting organised in 2011 thread I am going to purchase an A4 diary for all financial dates / payments etc!

I am, for my sins, in Children and Families. Love it though, it's tough but worth it in the end. How's the training going?
