I started writing a long post based on my geology & Chemistry degree (with an option in oceanography I did) and the reading I still do on the subject ......but I cannot be a**sed because you wont listen and still believe any old hokum posted on the internet.

And the same goes for the OP too.

I haven't done a degree in geology or chemistry, but I can safely say, the ocean is very large, and compared to it this spill is very small.

Somehow, I don't think leaking this amount of oil is going to make any measurable change to the weight of the ocean.

The gulf stream can and has in the past weakened considerably, and when it happens it does happen pretty quickly. Neither do we really understand why it happens.
    We do, it's BP.:)
It has been slowing for the last 10 years or so, so quick in geological terms, but not 9 months like this story.

The last significant slowdown was around 1300 AD when Ye olde Britannia Tar Co. dropped some hot Tar in a puddle near Skegness.

Well, I'm fairly sure that the events in 1300AD were actually caused by a shoddy American barel, but they covered that one up...

Well let's not blame them too much. These poor b*ggers didn't have all the excellent Health & Safety legislation that we enjoy today. And anyway, we don't need to worry because Skegness have promised that the pothole that caused this puddle will be repaired in 2011.

We are doomed my mums bathwater was not going down yesterday, the outside pipe had frozen, she has lived in the house for 54 years through the winters of 63 and 81(for all those that remember) and this has never happened before. :D

Well we need no clearer evidence than this. She will, I hope, be suing BP for this tragedy, preferably in the US Supreme court.

Wait until BP use the "hair in pipe" defence. Looks very much like a wookie defence when pulled out (literally).

Could I sue BP for hitting my funny bone on doors 4 times recently, they were all painted in gloss paint (oil based)
I think the oil casued me to deviate off course.

Excellent use of the Wookie defence - I hope BPs lawyers are on to it...

Maybe she dropped a "log" and didn't admit to it?

Unfortunately we had to cancel our Christmas meal today due to the weather, and Chucky, one of our number actually does live on Hope Mountain (photo 11). :)

The Gulf Stream will stop, this is a certainty, it will create havoc for sure as we sit at a similar latitude to Moscow, however it's not going to happen tomorrow. There are so many issues that will bring our current way of life to an abrupt end.

The first will be the end of cheap oil which is required for every single aspect of our modern lives, next the aforementioned Gulf Stream issue and of course let's not forget the Super Volcano which sits under Yellowstone and is already 20,000 years overdue.

When this goes off, expect the global population to fall to less than 100,000 from it's current 6.5 billion.
