Researching all of this stuff obsessively seems like the biggest waste of time I can think of.

    Appologies for the pointless post.

The Met Office has consistently failed to predict the behaviour of the Jet Stream.

It has no more actual idea of when the current "buckling" of the Jet Stream will end any more than it had any idea of when that buckling was about to start.

It doesn't understand the cause. So it cannot predict the effect.

Instead of continuing on in its so-called traditional pattern (resembling a belt wrapped around the Earth) the Jet Stream yet again resembles a fairground roller-coaster, with its "slope" blocking the westerlies and allowing northerlies and easterlies to move in without resistance over the UK.

    Which is what's happening now.
  • UK Outlook for Tuesday 4 Jan 2011 to Tuesday 18 Jan 2011:

A return to nearer normal temperatures across much of the UK appears likely as we move into the New Year. Probably remaining unsettled, but with an increasing chance of some longer drier interludes with more sunshine.

What about the fact that the sun is switching off - can't be bothered to link but the 11 year solar cycle seems to have stretched in to 15 years - something to do with no more boom and bust?
    I think....
