I have done a brief search of the forum for APCOA parking fines and found lots where the person was actually in the place where the parking fine was received (albeit briefly) but my daughter has had a letter this morning for parking at Luton Airport on Mon 22nd Nov when she was actually at work here in Grimsby! She hasn't driven her Smart Car further than Lincoln!
So, my worry is... is her car numberplate cloned or do they just send out random letters hoping they will frighten someone?
I hope someone can put her (and my) mind at rest. Thank you!

Worth going to the plod and reporting it. There could be other tickets around and this way they would be easily overcome. Get an incident report in case.
Regarding the invoice, unless it is a proper one, stating RTA etc then just ignore it.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0 -
Thank you for that. I'll give them a ring now.DEBT FREE BY 60Starting Debt 21st August 2019 = £11,024

The police ( I didn't ring 999 in case anyone is wondering!) said she will have to put it in writing and to send it recorded delivery saying that she wasn't there and ask for photographic proof of the car. Her Smart Car is very distinctive with bumper stickers and side decals so, unless the photo was taken from the from the front we will know it.DEBT FREE BY 60Starting Debt 21st August 2019 = £11,024

Why bother? Certainly don't waste Recorded Delivery money on these people.
Simply ignore them. Chances are that their automatic cameras aren't always good at picking out number plates every time.
My local Sainsburys has a Euro Car Parks Unenforceable Invoice Number Plate Reader Sign (TM). It only gets my reg number correct 9 times out of 10.0 -
Oh once again Plod shows a lamentable knowledge of the law when it comes to PPCs and their begging letters.Still waiting for Parking Eye to send the court summons! Make my day!0

Its the police who want the pics etc not the ppc. She's ignoring them. Why bother? Certainly don't waste Recorded Delivery money on these people.

Can you clarify please. I thought it was sensible for the plod to ask for details incase anything crops up from a cloned car.bromsgrovebarry wrote: »Oh once again Plod shows a lamentable knowledge of the law when it comes to PPCs and their begging letters.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0 -
The letter I have drafted for my daughter...
Dear APCOA Parking,
REF: LM??????????????
I have received a Parking Enforcement Notice in the post this morning dated 14/12/10 stating that on 22/11/10 I had stopped in a No Stopping Area at Luton Airport. Neither I nor my vehicle registration (insert reg no) was at Luton Airport on the day in question as I was at work in Grimsby. In fact, the furthest I have ever driven in my car is Lincoln as I am a relatively new driver.
I have been advised by the police to request photographic evidence of this incident as they suggest that either the registration number has been misread by yourselves or my number plate has been cloned. I would appreciate a prompt reply so I can proceed with a police investigation.
Yours sincerely,DEBT FREE BY 60Starting Debt 21st August 2019 = £11,024

Don't waste your stamp because they will automatically reject any appeal. Proceed straight to police, do not pass go and don't go to jail.(getting in the spirit for Christmas) Just ignore apcoa and their invoices. They will get stronger and more threatening but as these firms work on percentages, once they realise you won't bite they give up.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0
