Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Mon 20th Dec. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.
Morning all
I'm up way to early again, packups made, hubby's going to try & catch the bus to the station & he has a long walk to the nearest bus stop as the bus service has been suspended down to our area.
No idea about today's plans, loads to do, just not sure which order to tackle them. I shall walk round to the local shop just to get out & about.
Hugs to all those who are ill or down.
Keep safe & warm.
Hugs Hester

O little town of Bethlehem,
How still we see thee lie!
Above thy deep and dreamless sleep
The silent stars go by;
Yet in thy dark streets shineth
The everlasting Light;
The hopes and fears of all the years
Are met in thee to-night :xmassmile
In my calendar - a Christmas tree.
Morning :santa2:
I felt bad about moaning at mr tru yesterday, found out he didn't volunteer to help with the carol service. Because he's usually happy to help out, someone assumed he'd do it this time too and put his name down. A friend rang and offered me a lift, then half an hour later someone else rang to tell us the service was cancelled because the roads near the church were too dangerous to drive on.
The last few months madness and upheavals finally caught up with me yesterday - I ended up bursting into tearsNot because of the carol service, BTW
I spent the afternoon curled up on the sofa, watching tv. Iron Man 2 is quite good
Today, I woke up raring to go. I need to check the cupboards and write a shopping list, do some ironing and clean out the chickens. Then it's all things ChristmasWrap the presents, arrange the candles, get the Christmas CDs out, check the tablecloth is big enough for the table (I've got a feeling it isn't), drink sweet fizzy wine.

Morning.
A light dusting overnight for us, but its raining now and that is boring:mad:
Work soon, too easy to get there...
Went to the traditional carol service at our local church. The heating was broken so it was very traditional. Pre Central heating traditional. Nice though.
Need to get a few presents today in lunch hour and hope Posty delivers my wifes stuff I ordered.
Well, here goes another day...NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0 -
Morning everyone. And yet more snow!
Been up for about 2 hours already so been doing 'things' until now. Will have a shower shortly and then go off to a work meeting and hopefully be back home by 1.30p.m. I've managed to avoid three Christmas lunches so far, there's only so much turkey and pudding that this gal can take, and my usual limit is zero!!
Yesterday I zoomed out to the shops as early as possible and did a massive shop, all the essentials are now stocked up. :j
Hope everyone is warm and well.0 -
Hi Tru - hope you're feeling better now. Christmas is a time when a lot of emotional pots boil over. Personally I'm hoping that the snow comes down on Wednesday thick and fast so we can stay in our own house this year. Although if OH wants to and its safe of course we'll go to see his family.
Spent most of yesterday watching TV and nibbling. Have decided to get a handle on things today and will be eating a lot healthier and taking regular exercise from now on. Will be helpful for me in surviving the emotional pots of Christmas. OH has said that he wants to go christmas shopping today - grrrrrrr he has the whole of the year - WHY leave it til now?
OS wise - have some leftovers in the fridge and will be having easy meals I think as the pressure of Christmas builds! Lots of yuletide hugs to everyone - even if you think you don't need one - have it anyway and store it for later xxMe, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx
March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.0 -

We've got an old draughty aluminium front door (getting a new PVC one after Christmas). Ice had stuck the curtain and draught excluder to it. Just tried to unlock it, had to heat the key first. Then had to chip the ice away from the bottom of it with a knife. The house is lovely and toasty, so at least I know the curtain and draught excluder are doing their jobsBulletproof0

Morning everyone
No more snow here, we seem to have got off lightly. It is very icy though, am dreading the walk to work, I was bad enough before I had my fall in the last lot so am very wary of the ice now.
Yesterdays early christmas went well, loads of food eaten, but still quite a few leftovers for today.
Plans today are to go to work, nip out lunchtime for a few bits, then come home and relax. Managed to clear the ironing moutain before everyone came yesterday so just a couple of bits that need washing.
Need to get the bigger suitcase out of the loft as we will be away for 3 nights over christmas and if it stays this cold will need more clothes than usual.
Best get a move on as need to leave early today, no bread roll to go with my lunch time soup so need to pop into co-op on the way to work.
Have a good day, keep warm xxwhoever said laughter was the best medicine has clearly never tasted wine

Morning all,
It's been ages since I posted here but I'm up early refreshing the schools page on the local news website to see if they're up and running today. It's highly unlikely that they will be as the snow began again last night when we were on our way back from the Christmas market and we had a very scary journey which took much longer than it should have done. Brought new meaning to the words snow on snow on snow on snow! It doesn't look like it's going to stop any time soon so thank goodness we have booked DD a ferry home from uni this year rather than a flight. It will be great to have all my little birds in one nest again.
Plans for today include a thorough clean of the house, making a minestrone soup and (assuming we can dig the car out again) doing the final Christmas shop this evening.
Off to make the packed lunches... keep warm everyone.

Good Morning everyone
We got back last night after a weekend away visiting family. The travelling was a bit scary at times but not as bad as expected. The worse bit was on Saturday evening in Cambridge when we had heavy snow for a while-not expected! I phoned my Dad who lives about 12 miles north of Cambridge yesterday to say we had got back safely-he hadn't had any snow on Saturday.
Very cold here today. Don't think the house has really warmed up yet. I must finish the unpacking and do some cleaning. DD2 arrives this evening so her favourite fish fingers for dinner. I think I'll make a rice pudding too as we have quite a lot of milk.Beef soup made from the remains of a potroast for my lunch.0 -
Morning all
W*rk today although I feel absolutely pants - another bout of lurgy! its seems to have gone round us all twice.
Spoke to my boss last night who said the roads are clear but parking is an issue as the car parks are un-gritted. He offered me a lift but it means i'm tied to either waiting for him to finish or relying on a train to get home.
Only a few presents left to wrap which hopefully (if the kids all go to bed on time) I'll get done tonight. Asda delivery has been updated for thursday and I'm feeling like Christmas has been cracked!
Stay safe and warm everyone xClimbing back on the OS wagon after a short vacation to Recklessness
