I Owe Unlisenced Loan Sharks What To Do

    Well done for posting.

How much do you actually owe the loan sharks? Maybe contact them and ask for a closing figure if you were to pay now. Then see if you can possibly raise this amount and get them paid ASAP, as generally they are not very nice when you are unable to pay them.

If you decide to sell your house you will need to change your lifestyle as this is probably the cause of your debt, so unless your ready to change then whatever you decide to do is irrelevant as you will be in the same position in a few months again.

I think this is your light bulb moment, but only you can change your life. With a partner and baby on board you need to prioritise their needs and sort everything around them.

    Good Luck.

Sorry to say this but if you sell your house voluntarily (Whether forced to by debt or not) you won't be elidgable for a council house as you technically made yourself homeless. We're in a housing association house and one of the big terms before we were accepted was that you had to have exceptional circumstances ie overcrowding etc and had not voluntarily made yourself homeless. Also if you're a single man you won't have a hope in hell of getting a house a the priority housing always goes to the elderly, families or single parents.

I' not sure this is strictly true. If you can prove you can not afford to live in the home then this can be accepted as involuntary homeless.

I know women who have sold their home following a divorce (even though they were awarded the house) who have been offered council housing because they could prove to the council by showing a statement of affairs that they could not afford to keep the house on.

Of course if the council feel that your actions have been reckless they could consider you voluntary homeless in which case you may get nothing.

An important question is will selling your home clear ALL your debts to these people. If not then you could just be getting yourself into more trouble. If it will then selling up and renting could be an option but do not rent privtely until you have appraoched the council first.
  • How old are you? Basically its time you took responsibilities for your actions instead of running away from them. You have spent and no doubt enjoyed a life of leasure on other peoples money and now, guess what, its payback time. :naughty:

I think this is quite unneccessary - the OP is trying to sort the situation out, otherwise would he really be talking about selling his house? The implication that the OP has had 'a life of leisure' is completely unfounded!

Dammit firstly i didn't meant to thanks the poster for this i pressed the wrong button!!!

This type of post is totally not required and if you persist then maybe you need to look at your own life as i am sure its not all rosey!

    As for the OP,

Sell ur house, get the loan sharks of your back and then maybe look at addressing the problems that you may have. If you think your gambling is so much of an issue that you had no option but to goto loan sharks then maybe a visit to GA is required? Have a look on http://gamblersanonymous.org.uk

and if its online gambling then download http://gamblock.com

I would also urge you to do an honest Statement of Affairs which includes all the overspending, at least if its written down you can see it for yourself.

The last thing is think of the emotional stress that your putting you family through but also look at yourself and the stress you are doing to yourself at the moment. You need to start looking after yourself and your family and this means doing what is neccersary, even if this means admitting your mistakes.

I'm not sure if this poster is some sick joker or what?

I read many stories of DFW on this forum, admitting their problems, coming to terms with them and sorting them out, for which they have to be commended.Unforunately Mr Uppercase (here) appears to be Mr Nutcase!

He is talking about selling his house to run away, not to pay the debts. If he is not responsible for his actions then why should the 'heavies' when they turn up to collect. Its one or the other, however either way its payback time.
