Cancelled christmas party

Myself and 16 of my work colleagues had a Xmas party booked at a restaurant last night, but the restaurant rang and cancelled due to the snow. We have already paid £35 per head. Therefore they have nearly £600 of our money. They have offered to accomodate us in January but this is not possible for us. We have asked for a full refund and they have refused. Any ideas where we stand?

That's what a lot of people are doing including myself.0 -
How come you cant go next month0

Was it paid on a credit card? if yes, might be able to get refund, i would have thought that the restaurant would have had to refund if they cancelled, a lot of people wouldnt want their xmas party in January.!0

I would have thought you were within your rights to ask for your money back.
If you can't have the meal another time then so be it.
I could understand if you cancelled and they kept the money but that is not the case here.
It may end up in small claims but a threat of the same may do the trick.0 -
You stand entitled to a full refund. it is irrelevant that you cant make a date in January.
Can I assume one person paid the collective pot ? If so that person should write them a letter before action asking for a full refund or they will commence action in County Court.
£600 is well within the small claims limit and a very easy procedure. My bet is the restaurant will refund before it comes to that but if not go through with it and take them to court"The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts."

As the OP is looking at getting the money back as they cannot have the meal in January then that is the real issue, not when people care to have a Christmas themed meal.0

I think the restaurant have an unmitigated nerve not to offer a full refund when they have done the cancelling. Sure the weather was tough but that doesn't entitle them to dictate a fresh time or keep the money. Other than the hassle it would be good fun to see them try to defend this in the small claims court. I guess they have ensured 17 people won't use the restaurant again!0
