Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Sun 19th Dec. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Morning All,

I've been up for a couple of hours, still snotty and grotty :) The weather is unchanged up here, looks as if it hasn't been too cold overnight, and the little snow we had yesterday is still the same :) Lots of cloud from what I can see though and I think we're expecting more snow. I hope those of you experiencing the extremes of the weather just now are staying safe and warm inside today.

Plans for today are some house cleaning, and some gift wrapping. I also still have a couple of can can scarves to complete, so I think I'll spend the afternoon doing that in front of a movie. I have a bread dough proving right now, and shall be making a big put of lentil and carrot soup shortly to keep us nourished today. Dinner tonight is toad in the hole, and I think I might bake a cake of some sort too, or make some doughnuts :)

Hope everyone has a lovely day. JackieO I hope you and yours are having a lovely time, whatever you've managed to do.

Hugs Spoons and Hi5's all round.

Morning everyone. The deluge of snow we were supposed to have last night hasn't arrived - yet! Both boys are up and playing on their games (quietly for a change). I'm still putting CDs on my computer - don't ask. Dinner last night was roast chicken, but as I forgot to do veggies we decimated the chicken so definately no stretching it.

Might get some stock out of it though! Dinner today will be pasta and I might see if I can make some carrot & orange soup - I've not got any coriander so this will have to do. If anyone has any recipies........

Reasonable amount of tidying up done yesterday -[ just have to tackle the dining room now!] :))))
Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx

March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.

    Morning

JackieG I hope you get shot of all your germs for Santa coming!

JackieO I was so disappointed when I heard the match had been cancelled I just hope you managed to do something together instead.

I have a new lurgy that is sweeping through the family but its only lasted a couple of days in each of them but they have been really poorly - just hoping I can carry on as I have a lot to do.

Got the majority of the pressies wrapped yesterday and the twins went out to spend their christmas money yesterday so I'll get there things to wrap when they've finished posing in them!

Plans for today include making up the gift boxes for the in-laws with the kids and getting some cleaning and sorting done - depends on energy levels!. Also have to get to DFIL's today with the gifts for them weather permitting and do some MS audits if I get through.

    Enjoy your day x

    Morning.

Cold down this way, but being Cornwall we won't get the snow by the looks of it, just rain  At least we can get about.
Carol service tonight after work during the day.... Not much else going on really...
NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!

You can add me to the poorly list :( I'm all snotty and sneezey too.

    No fresh snow here overnight.

I was pleased with the Strictly result (won't mention the name incase some of you missed it!)

I woke up early so decided to put WM and DW on whilst it's still cheap electricity time, but for some reason my DW's door won't shut  It feels like there is something in the way but I've checked and there isn't. I can't be without it :( if it's not working by tomorrow I'll ring the letting agent to send someone round.

Need to do all the jobs I didn't do yesterday today. :o. and probably now a tonne of washing up by hand .

Tonight we were meant to go for our Girls Xmas meal and swap presents, but one of the girls lives in Bristol and doesn't think she can make it down due to the snow. I can't get my car out either yet. I'd be gutted if we cancel as this will be the third time we have had to cancel a get-together in the last 3 months for various reasons!

    Have a great day all

We had around 4 inches of snow yesterday & more due today, the only car that has moved is the local dealer's he slipped & skidded our of the road yesterday afternoon, when he returned home he lost control & it was blocking the road yesterday, but I haven't looked out yet to see if it's still there. If he can't get out I expect we'll have an endless queue of addicts arriving on foot.
Plans for today include yet more housework & finding something for lunch, not sure what yet, I might defrost one of my freezer's, I have 2 small 4 drawer freezers each with a fridge on top, I defrosted one last half term so really need to do the other one now.
    Keep safe & warm everyone.
    Hugs Hester

    Morning everyone.

Still feel lousy :( I haven't been this poorly for a long time. H is the same. I can see why DD what clingy and whingy up until yesterday and the day before. With luck we'll feel better by Christmas day
That being the case feeling decidely un-festive the only thing that makes me smile is the snow. No more overnight but it's frozen hard here. Looks so pretty though, it's amazing how a little white makes everything look great. Got a black bird perched on our little cherry tree so I think I need to brave the cold and go and feed and water out there. I have a bird feeder but blackbirds don't feed that way so he's probably hungry poor thing.

No plans for today. Tea will be probably chicken and veg and roasties (if I can be bothered :o)

Hugs, spoons and high fives all round. Have a good Sunday OS or not. Stay safe and warm where ever you are x

    Morning all

Now light, no more snow just very cold and very very icy everywhere.

Feeling rather low at the moment have a few things floating round my mind at the moment, seem to go from being ok, to just wanting to sit and sob my heart out, this time of year is always difficult just will be pleased to get xmas day out of the way. Having said that I know lots of people have far more serious problems than me so I need to try to be strong and work my way through this and I should be grateful I have my hubby, and my gorgeous boys and some very good and supporting friends.

Yesterday DH was up and off to work at stupid early o'clock finished up being quite a long day as they had lots on, we had already written yesterday off as we knew it would be a long work day for him.

Friends came over for eats and drinks on Friday evening, very nice evening and I managed not to drink too much, so didn't have hangover yesterday morning!

DS2 has woken this morning with a sore throat to accompany his lingering cold, doesn't feel too good so he doesn't want to go to the Rugby xmas party he should have been going to, eldest has indoor training this morning, pitches so frozen they can't train but they've already lost so many weeks they have hired the local sports hall today, so will taxi him there later.

Have a leg of lamb in fridge for later so that will be a meal at some point today. Left the heating on low overnight so woke this morning and it was all lovely and toasty in our bedroom, not very OS I know but temperature is -5c, so thought we'd better have a bit of old fashioned OS activity!! - very nice it was too! Sorry if too much info this early in the morning!

Have to get showered and have breakfast as need to take DS1 for training and then come home and make cheese sandwiches I promised for the party later.

Work again tomorrow until Wednesday, still have a few bits to do but boys going to grandparents tomorrow and have been told my mum to take overnight bag for them as they now staying until I finish work on Wednesday, so will be easier couple of days.

Not much else to say really, keep safe and well everyone, hugs to those that need them.

The twins are not going to MILs today by the lok of things.
We are planning on takeing them out into the garden to play in the snow for 10mins later on.

Thanst about it really at the moment.I hope that all the sick ones start to feel better soon and that you are all keeping warm and safe.

  • Another early morning for me. Dropped my DH off at work for 8pm. Filled the DW and ready to put another clothes load in the WM. Fed the cats and the chickens and debating what I can do cooking and baking wise today.

I was working all day yesterday so it's a very short weekend for me, and still 2 days jobs to catch up on, as ever.

I am still without my breadmaker after losing the paddle - disappeared in the same place as the odd socks I think. I have sent away to Amazon for another one, so eating supermarket bread at the minute - how expensive is it?!!

No snow up here in Lincolnshire again, but still very very cold.

Kitten settling in really well, can't believe it's a week since I was surprised with him. Will try and upload a photo later, in between everything else.

    Have a good day.

    O come, all ye faithful,
    Joyful and triumphant,
    O come ye, O come ye to Bethlehem;
    Come and behold him,
    Born the King of angels;
O come, let us adore him,
O come, let us adore him,
O Come, let us adore him, Christ the Lord

    Morning :santa2:

I had a rubbish day yesterday. Mr tru wanted a large panettone, he dragged me round five supermarkets before he found one (including 2 tescos, and I hate tesco. They don't even deserve a capital T when I write the name :D ). On the way home, the road was blocked by a bus that had skidded sideways. If it had been a car, we'd have offered them a push but as a bus is way too heavy, we turned round and drove another way :D We half drove, half skidded home. Fast forward a few hours - at 2.30am master tru rang and asked if we had money for a taxi. He'd been on his works do and was stuck in town with no money, could we leave some on the table? Then mr tru snored and I end up sleeping on the sofa.

We're supposed to be going to a carol service today at 3pm, mr tru has offered to help with parking. The road up to the very busy church is narrow and windy, so they always have a few people making sure there's no chance of a crash, lol. I've just found out that he has to be there 1hr and 15mins before the service starts, so I'd have to just hang around on my own til it starts. I said I'm not doing that so I'll just stay at home, mr tru isn't very happy about that, he knows I really want to go. Shouldn't have offered to help then, should he?

This morning I'm going to clean out animals and flit about with a duster. This afternoon, I'm going to wrap presents and write cards, while glugging my way through a large bottle of Lambrusco and blaring out my Lady GaGa cd. When I get to mr tru's presents, I'll probably end up swearing at them and slurring things like 'I don't know why I'm wrapping YOU, you're for HIM and HE doesn't deserve you' :rotfl:
