oldestrocker - To be frank, I find your attitude and comments insulting, patronising and damn right arrogant. My parents worked all their lives holding down two jobs each and paying into the system. For people like you to turn around and accuse them of living a 'life on benefits' is a disgrace.

Just put oldestrocker on Ignore by changing your user settings so you don't see his posts. Many of us have already done this ;) and to his previous incarnation (andyandflo) .

You are doing your best to help your parents and don't need to justify yourself to him or anybody else!

Ah, sorry, I didn't realise that this/he was a common issue on these forums. Thanks for your advice and kind words. :)

You need to go back to basics. As Oldernotwiser has said, you don't need a full kitchen to get running water. Until you can afford to do more, all you really need is someone to do the plumbing, a microwave and a table to do a bit of prep.
    Gone ... or have I?

Hi OP, has either of your parents been in the armed forces at any time, as the British Legion may be able to help you.
Or if you phoned the social services and asked for an assessment they have lots of people you might be able to get help from.

Yes my dad is ex-army but was medically discharged after being injured during the fighting in Northern Ireland. I didn't think about this - thank you for your suggestion, I will definately look into it.

Why not fit the kitchen yourself? I did mine - first one. Took me a day to do it and even the worktops are level :rotfl::rotfl:

Only thing I needed to do was pay a plumber to pipe the taps in.

'What can I have & when can I have it' seems to be the catch phrase at the moment in this country.
You have the nerve to say that whilst you and your familys hand's have been stuck in the honey pot for over a decade now. Then you post on another forum about how unfair it is that you don't qualify for any cold weather payments.

You really are something else Andy.
    *SIGH*

Maybe it depends on the area. SSAFA were very good to my parents and bought them a new cooker when the old one was condemned.

What on earth are you talking about?
They have an outstanding amount of £68,000.
The interest rate is 0.69%, as I mentioned before.
    Which means £469.20 per year.
    Which is £39.10 per month.

Where do you get £215 per month from?

I think you will actually find that the government are paying over 3% at the rate of £215 pm, as the actual interest is only £39, £176 wil be coming off the capital each month!
