always a tin of spam for Christmas in our house when I was little. Why?:rotfl: we never had it through the year
ETA: no it wasn't, it was a tin of Pek ham.. do'h!
Ha ha I love PEK but it is sooooooooooooo expensive now, as is Vista curry and fry Bentons piesIf you woke up this morning congratulations, you have another chance :j0 -
Oh, I remember Pek ham! we always had it in my house when I was young! Blimey, that was a blast from the past MicheH!!!! I have two teenage boys, and I explained to them a few months ago that this christmas is going to be different, they are not going to get everything they want (they don't need stuff anyway). They both told me what they would really like - one, a book series, cost £13.00, the other one, phone credit, cost £20.00. I have saved up and bought silly stuff for them to open, but how much have I spent on credit? NAFF ALL!!!!! I agree, it can be a bit disconcerting to see all these people wandering through the shopping centres laden down with bags and bags of stuff......but, at the end of the day, how much do you think they paid for with cash, and how much went on credit? I would hazard a guess here, and there will be some terrible debt stories in the new year...... :-(2013 NSD challenge 3/10

Awwwww, Diddly, I just read your post, I so agree with you! money doesn't make you happy, it makes life easier, this is true. Sorry about your loss, but let your kids know how much they were loved. Take care x x2013 NSD challenge 3/10

I have been planning this Christmas since before last years! I pay money into Park Hampers and get the Shopping Vouchers - have done since I was 9 years old (via my Mum) - had a few years off when I was able to have my own credit cards but for the past few years and especially this one (went BR in March) I have saved throughout the year so I can get my children some of what they want for Christmas. We have to go without during the year to enable me to put the money away - but I didn't get presents willy nilly when I was a kid so why do children need them now. Next years order has already gone in and I have started paying towards it. I know in November I will have a bunch of vouchers and I can treat myself, hubby and kids as well as other family to gifts to show I care and appreciate their support throughout the year.
Christmas to me is about my family. Spending time with them and showing them my love. I lost my Mum 5 years ago this week, and I would give up everything I own if I could spend a day with her again and show my children how much they were loved by her. They say Money does not make you happy - I completely agree - yes it makes life easier at times but as long as you have enough to keep a roof over your head, food in your belly and your bones warm you are rich.
Oh Diddly what a lovely post I agree it is not about money but about family, we lost 3 aunties (one just before Christmas) and one of my oh parents all in 2009. I do know where you are coming from xx All the things you just said are what matters in life and you are right we never had things willy nilly, we had birthday and Christmas xxIf you woke up this morning congratulations, you have another chance :j0 -

Life is far to short. my dad used to say they were happier in the old days I could never understand what he meant until now...........they had no credit and if they could not afford it they did not get it end off. xxxxIf you woke up this morning congratulations, you have another chance :j0 -
