Was in a clothes shop yesterday with best mate, exchanging something that was the wrong size for some reduced jewellery. There was a teeny amount to pay, and the cashier asked if we would like a storecard. Best mate said no, a bit hesitantly (because she was thinking about something else, not because she wanted one). Cashier asked if she was sure. I came in then with "no thanks, we don't do unneccessary credit". Cashier said "oh, this isn't unnecessary - it's for clothes!"
I've found this Christmas really exciting. I've got all my presents (not wrapped yet, but I've got the paper and tape all ready), I've got some of the food. And the best bit - I don't get paid until next week. This will be the first year EVER that my December pay isn't stretched seven ways til Sunday, and I'm really going to enjoy January's post!We may not have it all together, but together we have it all

I've been working in town today, and its quite bizarre looking at all the shoppers with their bags of goods that must have cost a fortune, knowing that you have no money for any xmas presents, or for any kind of shopping, for that matter. Heyho.............Debt free - Is it a state of mind? a state of the Universe? or a state of the bank account?

Last Christmas we didn't buy any Xmas presents and had an Asda Party platter for Xmas lunch - it was F******* miserable

I have been planning this Christmas since before last years! I pay money into Park Hampers and get the Shopping Vouchers - have done since I was 9 years old (via my Mum) - had a few years off when I was able to have my own credit cards but for the past few years and especially this one (went BR in March) I have saved throughout the year so I can get my children some of what they want for Christmas. We have to go without during the year to enable me to put the money away - but I didn't get presents willy nilly when I was a kid so why do children need them now. Next years order has already gone in and I have started paying towards it. I know in November I will have a bunch of vouchers and I can treat myself, hubby and kids as well as other family to gifts to show I care and appreciate their support throughout the year.
Christmas to me is about my family. Spending time with them and showing them my love. I lost my Mum 5 years ago this week, and I would give up everything I own if I could spend a day with her again and show my children how much they were loved by her. They say Money does not make you happy - I completely agree - yes it makes life easier at times but as long as you have enough to keep a roof over your head, food in your belly and your bones warm you are rich.Donna
Economy; careful management; providence. Whether you call it thrifty or frugality it all comes down to getting more for your money.0
