i think it's more to do with the fact that apparently Kas are cheaply made hence all the problems!

Well that does not say much for the Fiesta underneath :p

Yes, older Kas used the 1.3-litre OHV pushrod engine that dates back to the Anglia, and only had minor changes in the 40 or so years! I never understood why they didn't use the 1.25-litre Zetec 16-valve in the Ka....Cost, maybe?

My Ka is a 1.6-litre SportKa, which is a chain driven OHC engine, same with the StreetKa..Still only 8-valves though! Somebody correct me if I'm wrong here, but I seem to recall all 2004(ish) to 2008 (just before the new one was released) Kas had the same OHC DuraTec lump as the SportKa and StreetKa, just 1.3-litres instead, and as such the OHV lump isn't used anymore...

There is still a load of 8v cars out there I was shocked when I was looking at new cars.

Nothing wrong with a nice simple engine. :)

    I've wondered that myself. :)

Probably a cost cutting measure, also space would be more limited than the Fiesta due to the smaller engine bay. Obviously the 16-valve engine, being DOHC would be far wider than an OHV, or even a SOHC...

I agree about there being nothing wrong with a nice simple engine, too. One of the reasons I bought the Ka with that, although not as easy as the OHV lump space wise, the SOHC engine is easier to work on than many others that often require a garage. Also, I have a phobia of cambelts, so being chain driven, you don't have as much of a rattle as the OHV engine, yet performance isn't too rubbish either...sort of the best of both worlds!

Of course, but when you open a modern cars bonnet and see an engine you recognise from the AX GT but with all the added sensors then it's not so simple.

It is not due to lack of space as there is plenty room for a 1.8L 16V DOHC Duratec lump to be fitted.
