Ladies....................it was a joke, in response to how the thread had taken a turn from being embarrassing tips to not embarrassing tips (as it seems to have again).
It was the most awful thing I could think of! :rotfl:
I thought the wink would give it away.
Whoops....oh well...blame it on ceridwen being one serious Being...:)
...and the fact that I have known someone ITRW do so....(but then you name it - and I quite likely have met someone who does/has done it ITRW.....)0 -
Years ago, the local newspaper publicised that the European Union was giving away part of the "beef mountain" in allocations of 6 cans of stewing beef per person. You had to show proof that you were on benefits to qualify and attend the collection point. I trotted off and collected mine as did a few other sheepish-looking paupers. Local journos were hanging around outside and couldn't understand why no one wanted to be photographed lol. It was in plainish tins with a royal blue label and a ring on EU stars and tasted very good when incorporated into homemade pies. Did I tell the family where the beef came from...........nope!Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

I don't eat fish, just don't like the idea. They are scavengers, to me it's like eating mice or rats! After watching that programme nothing would induce me to eat it now. (There are other threads on this programme at the moment)
Most fish aren't scavengers: larger fish eat the smaller ones for the most part and that's not scavenging is it? Even bottom-feeding fish like the flat ones don't eat dead things.
About the fish-fight campaign: it's been common-knowledge about the discard policy for a long time now, ever since the fishing-quotas were first brought in by the EEC, really.. I'm really glad that it's being publicised and people are getting concerned about it, it offends common-sense to chuck away perfectly edible foods just because they're the "wrong kinds". However, the consequence of changing this policy could very well result in even higher prices for the consumer or food being sourced from much less well-regulated sources, just like the chicken from the Far East.0 -
This is one step up from re-gifting (or down, depending on your point of view). I keep a look out for stuff like bric-a-brac, quality sets of toiletries, books and cds at bootfairs and charity shops which are immaculate and still have their labels on and re-gift them. I don't actually tell people I do this. Most of my mates are a lot better off than me and gifts can be a strain on my budget. I like the thrill of the chase but I wouldn't 'fess up to them that this is what I'm doing
Does this make me a bad person?

The only problem with doing this is that sometimes you can be unknowingly caught out. I can think of two occasions where this has happened to me receiving "regifted" products. Some toiletries I was given (a moisturising cream & hand creams gift set which was probably ancient because the products had dried out inside the pots, and a large Christmas pudding which had also dried out and shrunk inside its container. The Christmas pudding could have been conversation stopper - the remaining contents were barely enough for two people when opened. If the person gifting it had been present at the meal it would have been very embarrassing.0 -

Re the dog food - its actually well known in America as something the elderly eat when they run out of pension and savings! I don't know if its true or just an expression, but I certainly heard it referred to so frequently that I cant help but think it's got a horrible kernel of truth to it:eek::eek:Mortgage free by 30:eek:: £28,000/£100,000
