by eating only on every odd day Ive halfed my food bills and go to the toilet less, so save on toilet paper.

That reminds me of the half fat diet: You only eat half of what you would ordinarily eat which means you are halving your fat intake. And because it is only half the fat you can eat twice as much....?!!!

That theory works very well with cream cakes I find ;)
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

    Hi all,

I've been known to decant shop own products into more expensive bottles - such as liquid soap / showergels,

I do this ( for the benefit of guests, who think i use Molton Brown = when in fact it's Sainsbury's £1.00 a bottle stuff decanted into an old Molton Brown bottle! .

No one can really tell much difference, and it gives me something to laugh about! :rotfl:

    As it happens, I don't use deodorant/antiperspirant.

Neither do i . I think it depends on the person, their "smell" , their diet, materials / fabrics they wear, etc. I wash every day , i just don't seem to "need" deoderant, or many " products " other than ocassional soap / shower gel.

companies "push" that we need a million and one products in the bathroom, the truth is this is nonsense.

That actually makes more sense than you may think, once you start factoring in pheromones etc :)

As it happens, I don't use deodorant/antiperspirant. I wash (shower) of course, and use perfume when I wish, but antiperspirants and (to a lesser extent) deos ravage my armpits. Sadly, my pores block at the slightest thing so unless I want agony, I steer clear! ;)

Have you tried Pit Rock or Thai deodourant stones? Basically it's a solid, transparent block of minerals that you wet & rub on your underarms. Doesn't stop you sweating but stops it smelling. It's generally fairly pricey (I buy Pitrock from Oxfam in a push up container for around £7) but it lasts for months (I think I may have had my Pitrock over a year!)

The main risk is dropping it, because then it shatters into a million pieces and most goes to waste! That's why I prefer the Pitrock in the container to the soap-shaped stones, even though you get more with the stones, I always drop those and I haven't dropped the Pitrock yet!

Edited to add: This is the stuff: http://www.pitrok.co.uk/product/334/pitrok-push-up-crystal-deodorant/category/91/

  • thats very similar to the one i use...

this is the travel size, currently in their sale at £3odd, and ive used it for nearly 4 years now! same one, gets flung in my swimming bag then in my hand bag then the bathroom, and i mean it gets flung!
they have a spray version too, but why pay for the water when a tap does just as good? :p

  • I once made about £6 in about 15 minutes at my local shopping centre cos people couldn't be bothered to take their trollies back

Re stamps: you may notice that stamps have two holes cut in them now which means if you try to take an unfranked stamp off an envelope, it won't come off in tact

Is this similar to the article we call a pumice stone (made from a kind of volcanic rock, I think)? We have one in our bathroom but it's pretty unbreakable when dropped and is useful for rubbing down hard skin & callouses on feet, etc.
  • I do a lot of things on here - reuse envelopes, using scraps of paper as new address labels which I sellotape on, using magasines/newspapers to wrap pressies in.

I have been using tips from my 1939 Household book - there are uses in there for tea, including cleaning windows (not tried this yet) & mixing dried tea leaves with coarse salt to put on carpets/floors before sweeping/ hoovering(to collect dust).I tried this on a small section of the hallway & did seem to help. There's also a tip for using hot vinegar which works - you can use it to get paint off (used it on OHs hands after he had blackmetal paint on).

Deodorant - I use a few drops of lavender oil. (it helps in the summer as well, getting bitten less by bity things!)

Sanitary Ware - I have started using some 'absorbent' cloths from Hardware Shop/Wilkinsons as panty liners, either on their own or with pads underneath. I then either rinse them in the sink (soak them in borax if they need it) or add them to the wash. I have some reusable pads but they are getting a bit tatty so needed something else.

No. It is not abrasive but is a stick of mineral SALTS. My hubby uses it as I refuse to buy any deoderant/antiperserant with aluminium in. It REALLY WORKS!! My hubby does perspire but the odour is never produced as the minerals kill off the bacteria which causes the odour. You can sweat freely (which is perfectly healthy) but you will never create an odour issue. You could use it on the soles of your feet too after bathing if you wished as it would work the same way. I swear by the stuff!
If you are put off by the price, dont be. A stick could last up to 6 months or more.
