Just thought of another - when I receive anything in a padded envelope I keep it and then when OH has ebayed something that needs a padded envelope we will just put a new label on it and seal the package with tape. I have even been known to retrieve padded envelopes from the office bins

Oh dear, is that embarrassing - I always re-use padded envelopes - and ordinary ones - I thought it was just good practice! Also remake christmas and birthday cards and tags out of old ones.

One thing I do keep quietish about (apart from announcing it on public forums!) is that I use recycled tea :) as a compost activator. Not really embarrassed about it but I know it's a step too far for some, probably including my children and OH who eat the vegetables, but they haven't caught me sidling out of the bathroom with my jug yet.
    Jan 2011 GC £300/£150.79 (2 adults, 2 teens, working dog, includes food/cleaning/toiletries)

    :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: Me too - doesn't everyone? :D

Anyway, lets hope you haven't just jinxed yourself... Do let us know if they catch you with your jug tomorrow  :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Actually, I now use 'recycled tea' for keeping the local cats out of my garden. IT WORKS!!!!! A 'wee' sprinkle all about keeps them away :)

I save all the pre-paid envelopes that come with bills - I pay online - and use them to send my son's school dinner money in to school.

i re-gift unwanted presents, both mine and my childrens.

my childrens presents usually sit in a pile in their bedrooms for a few months, and then when those still sitting there are patently untouched, i 'suggest' i look after them ! they are quite happy for them to be passed on!

i use last years christmas cards as gift tags, and save gift bags to re-use. ( also save birthday cards to use as gift tags )

i save and re-use the padded envelopes and those really thick plastic bags some parcels come in. i also save all the 'pre-paid' envelopes that come with bills etc. i use all the blank sides of school letters, addresses in catalogues etc as shopping or 'to do lists'

thing is, i don't actually think of any of this as embarassing, just what i've always done! :D

Reuse jiffy bags and packaging all the time, and occasionally put cheap food into old packaging (ie, no brand weetabix in a weetabix box and putting cheap frozen mince in a not-so cheap frozen mince bag) mainly to get OH to eat cheap stuff :D He has some issue with cheap mince where he just decides it smells bad and is making him feel sick when eating it... idiot!
I always put my cheap stuff in the less-cheap shop's carrier bag when I'm shopping :D Topshop might give me a massive bag, so in go all the peacocks/primark/oxfam goodies!

Can't believe people reusing xmas cards! You could just turn the cover into gift tags.

Shock, horror I hear you screech!

However stop right there with your mouth open and read on!

I dropped by our local recycling centre who have their own resale shop area inc a clothes section.

I got my whole christmas party outfit from there for £3! :xmassmile Brand new pair of smart trousers (with price label attached marked at £12) for £1, :snow_laug a lovely blouse £1 :santa2: and a great brand new glittery scarf £1.

Lots of people commented on my new outfit and asked where they could get the same! Took alot of thinking to come up with a good answer to that one!

I washed it well as I would items from the charity shop in a bio powder with a splash of disinfectant, then gave a final rinse in some lovely smelling fabric conditioner! The most expensive finish to the outfit I was wearing was the tinsel round my wrist at £1.15 a strip!

Now that was the best bit of savvy shopping I've done all year!:T

My DD had to buy a school blazer for my DGSs school play a couple of weeks ago.It cost her a quid and was a brand new one that had been gifted to the charity shop. She is keeping it for him as he will start senior school next September and it will fir him properly by then as it was only a tiny bit too long in the sleeves at the moment .

Another thing for the tea bags.Once you've wiped down your mirrors and other shiny surfaces, give them a wipe over with a used tea bag and they stay shiny for longer.I dont know how or why it works-but it does.
When I first moved in with my DH, I didnt have a dressing table (still dont come to think of it).The only mirror in our studio was attatched to the wall in the bathroom. I would plug my hairdryer in in the kitchen and use the microwave door as a mirror as it had one of those silver finishes.

I think you may have misunderstood 'recycyled tea' :o
