As for selling, thats a whole expensive can of worms, I'm sure there will be others along shortly who can tell you better but you need some sort of licence to make & sell them, with all the recipes you use checked etc same with any kind of toilettries, make-up etc
ok thankyou for the info, dont like the word expensive though:eek: will see what happens:beer:0 -
lol, I've only done melt & Pour soap so far, but thats lovely & easy - bought goats milk based soap off ebay, melted it like you would chocolate & added scented oils and mica glitter before pouring into a mould.
If you go to my blog (link under me name), click on "crafts" in the menu bar, then toilettries you'll see what I made last xmas including loofah soap. You cant take a step forward with both feet on the ground0 -
any idea on how much these licences cost?0

Just been looking it up and its an assesment to get the items certified to sell them. More info here, looks like from a quick scan prices start off at £65. The business side isnt an are I know a lot about though so I dont want to give any wrong information. Hope the link helps.
Even giving the items away to friends & family can be a bit of a grey area just incase they get an allergic reaction etc but mine have all been gratefully received & used. You cant take a step forward with both feet on the ground0 -

Melt and pour soap sounds great! Thanks sylphraven! Can i ask you what is the best gentle/kind to skin soap to buy? And oils? I am considering making some soaps now i've read this thread! Not sure how easy it would be though, but would love to try! Lol! Do you have a link to read up on making these melt and pour soaps or have any easy instructions? Thanks!0

From what I've read most types SLS free are kindest, if you go to your local library they should have a few books on the subject, plus with googling you'll find loads of ideas.
Heres some nice basic instructions.
I get my oils from Sensory Perfection which are for candles & cosmetics, it actually says in the description if its not suitable, but for starting out you may find ebay, or getting essential oils is cheaper. Watch out for things like epileptics cant use primrose oil, pregnant women cant use certain oils, etc
Honestly Ami, Melt & pour is as simple or complex as you want to make itYou cant take a step forward with both feet on the ground0 -
each msds certficate will cost around £50 depending on how many you get at one time
for instance, say you were making bath bombs, your basic recipe is one, and then each additive, colour, fragrance or say lavender buds in another one each
as each additive changes the properties of the rest
buying m&p soap is probably the best bet for a beginner
and The Soap Kitchen is very good
it sells everything you need
last year i made loofah soaps, soap lollies, and massage bars
this year i am doing jelly babies
i just tried them last week
they are about 3" high each
strawberries & cream
make some blue, and slice it up, & put it in clear soap
iced wintermint
this is my loofah & massage bar from last year
package them nicely and you get a lovely gift for a few pence each
these are all very easy to make, and once you start experimenting you will love it0 -
these are the lollies
and you dont need a mold for these, so these are very cheap to make
for the stick my daughter **cough** borrowed **cough** coffee stirrers from starbucks as her friend works there:o
the loofah soap is done in a pringles tub, so again no mold
and yummy pringles!!
you can use almost anything as a mold
little ice cream tubs?
make a soap trifle
those tiny tubs you get in every plastic box set?
curl some white soap and set in a coloured clear one
you NEED a spray bottle of surgical spirits
but apart from that, you need nothing especially to do these ones0
