    Also forgot to mention:

If you decide to make melt & pour soaps and your making them for children you can add little plastic toys. Like spider's, bugs, worms etc.

If you think making bath bombs is a little difficult you can buy mini bath bombs on ebay they are called chill pills. Or try wholesale bath bombs.

But they are a little expensive when taking into account the p&P charges on such small quantities.

I have used these suppliers before - not very MSE but might help somone (ie those who do craft fairs - school fairs - fundraising etc):

  • Can I just say that essential oils and fragrance oils are different. Essential oils are distilled from plants and have theraputic properties. Fragrance oils are synthetic and have no theraputic properties. If you just want it to smell nice then go for fragrance oils as they will be cheaper.
  • Not sure if people are still reading this thread, but I thought I'd chip in my £0.02.

Here are two ingredients not to include in bath bombs:

Borax. Aka sodium borate. Ant poison. Toxic to your liver and kidneys if ingested. Long term effect of ingestion is liver cancer. Granted, you probably won't drink your bathwater (I hope!), but do you really want to take a bath in something toxic? And yet loads of bath bomb recipes I've seen online have borax as an ingredient.

Cornflower. Makes the water feel "softer", but guess what? It feeds yeast infections. Eep! I'd give it a miss. Yeasts feed on carbohydrates (sugar, flour), and for that reason the last thing you want to do is take a bath in cornflour.

Also one more tip: When you make bath bombs, add the water a tiny tiny bit at a time. You really need less water than what you think. My first few attempts I used too much water and my bombs started fizzing right away. Got the hang of it now though.

    Happy bath-bomb making :-)

I am thinking about making bath bombs, for DD first and if any good would consider making some for pressies.
I have had a look and found loads of different recipies, any ideas of the best one to use?
Am I also best just buying citric acid from the chemist, would it be cheaper than buying on line?

    Thanks
  • Hiya,
I used to dabble in soap and bath bomb making and used to use the site www.justasoap.co.uk I used to use citric acid and Sodium Bicarbonate with colours and smells. It may be worth investing in a small tester mould so you can test them out!
Hope this helps a little! :)

Hi Upsy Daisy, I use this recipe (non oil version).

Maybe you could check out ebay for starter kits to make your first batch to get you into the swing of making them? Would also mean you get the moulds to reuse.

I love bath bombs so buy the stuff from bathbomb in bulk. As for selling, thats a whole expensive can of worms, I'm sure there will be others along shortly who can tell you better but you need some sort of licence to make & sell them, with all the recipes you use checked etc same with any kind of toilettries, make-up etc
