Hi I have just found this thread - can I join please although my MR BM is not a FB one, it must be an old model I think?? When I joined MSE I went & dug it out from the cupboard where it was stashed & had no success with it, loaves like bricks - although DH & DD still ate them. I had some Allisons yeast that I was using & then checked the sell-by date - yep, it was waaay old! Bought some Doves Farm in Tesco & now bread is great although comes out a bit dark sometimes.
Re the cheese/onion thread - made that for the first time today - I couldn't find dried onion so bought a pkt of onion soup & used 2.5 tsp of that -worked a treat!! And plenty of soup left for more bread, we'll need it as we nearly ate it all with bacon/sausage in as sandwiches!!!
Great to see all the recipes on here, keep them coming!! BTW I made naan bread - with a mix, but used the BM to knead them. They went down a storm, not sure how cheap they were but the mix did make 5 Naans, the mix was Sharwoods.
Happy baking,
Marie

Well seeing as I don't want to throw too much money away I searched around a bit and found the Stainless Steel Fastbake that is £69.99 in Argos for £34.99 on Amazon. So I have ordered it, can I please join the club? When it arrives of course
as I chose the free delivery might be a week or so.
Only problem is I am slowly running out of benches in the kitchen but I am even more sick of running out of bread or throwing it away after overbuying with no freezer space.
If anyone knows the best recipe for as soft as possible loaf (my sons not a lover of crusty bread so if I can start him on this will help) I'd appreciate itOne day I might be more organised...........
GC: £200
Slinkies target 2018 - another 70lb off (half way to what the NHS says) so far 25lb0 -
I have a MR fastbake. I bought it a few years ago, and after making a loaf or two I put it away and forgot about it
Then after reading all the OS threads about making your own bread and not buying any I decided to make some bread in it again - WOW.
We do not buy bread anymore, as the BM bread is WAY better.
I also have a breadmaker bread book I bought back then, so I am starting to try all the recipes. Yummy :T
I am keeping a bread log, with what bread I make, the settings, and how it turned out (I am a sadly organised person- I do this with new recipes too)
My rolls are a big hit - I wanted to freeze them, but they don't seem to make it as far as the freezer...
So chuffed now :TSave the earth, it's the only planet with chocolate!0 -

lil me , check your settings, there will be a "light crust" section. I find this the one we use although it is a bit harder to knife slice.
Also I find that the crust is better if you put in the ingredients in the order of the list in the booklet ie wet first. Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.

What seeds has anyone managed to get hold off? I can only find sunflower, poppy & sesame?
I have been using my MR Fastbake regularly since buying it last year.
I use these seeds in my bread. I just throw a handful in most of the loaves I make. I got my last supplies in the Julian Graves 'Everything Half Price' sale.
My only disappointment is not being able to make a white fluffy loaf. They are always a bit on the grey side. They still taste OK. Or favourites are the wholemeal/granary/grainy types so it's not a big problem.

Is there any discernable difference in quality between the standard and the compact version?
There's only two of us so we don't need big loaves.0 -
