No complaints from me either and although we've only had ours a couple of weeks I'm sure its already in the category 'well used' :D

Just don't make chocolate and walnut bread. Yup its still in the cupboard. Thats the first loaf not to vanish within 24 hours.
I live in my own little world. But it's okay. They know me here.

    Hi november,

Is the chocolate and walnut bread really as gross as it sounds? My kids have been badgering me to make it, but I've been putting it off as it sounds horrible!

I made the chocolate bread (but missed the walnuts out because nuts are wrong) and loved it when it was covered in Nutella! I did find a little dry tho without anything on it! I do have quite odd tastes tho so I am prepared to in the minority!

I was given my BM as an engagement present a few monhs ago, I love it, I've only bought one loaf of bread since (and that was becuase I was really very ill indeed!).

    Oh Carrie,

I'm sorry to hear that.........are you doing it on the fastbake programme as some people have said that that makes the bread more 'cakey'

Can you post what recipe you're using and we'll help if we can.

Hiya! Can I join in too? I have had my BM for a while but am a bit slow on the uptake and only just spotted the club thread today(!)

Carrie, I had lots of problems when I first started - either bread with a caved in centre or a thin cake like loaf. I bought some Doves Farm Quick Yeast (for bread machines) as I had previously just bought bog standard yeast, and haven't had a disaster since.

I also found that just using the breadmaker on dough setting, then making up rolls and finishing them off in the oven worked well. For some reason, I wondered whether my BM had to be almost worn in and this seemed to be lower risk.

Its OK now for baking too!
:D Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!:D
  • atm im using hovis quick yeast (for bread makers)..... im just getting narked off with it atm as its wasting money not saving it

    Carrie,

    I don't really know what to suggest.....sorry :o

My family loved the the taste of the sandwich loaf but it didn't rise as well as I'd hoped.....so a much smaller loaf for your money.

The favourite here now is the basic, made with butter instead of sunflower oil and a little less sugar as we found three tablespoons made the loaf a bit sweet.

I am also mixing my flours....50/50 strong bread flour and plain (value) flour, to cut the costs a bit. I'm using Tesco fast action dried yeast.

If you are following the recipes in the booklet, the only thing I can think of that might be going wrong would be the temperature of the ingredients or the room temperature? Are they at room temperature when you put them in? Is the room very warm? According to my instructions the ingredients should be at room temperature and the machine bakes better bread in a coolish room.

Sorry I can't help more. Hopefully someone more experienced than me will come along soon.

    Pink
