Try that link, Happygirl, or else when I did a forum search there seemed to be a lot of MSE posts. Good luck!

Just seen a Wrights Carrot Cake mix on the Sainsburys site, has anyone tried this in their breadmaker?
  • I am thinking of getting MR fast bake bread maker, I have an older model and it has served me very well over the past 5 years, but it is on the brink of break down now, so I have returned mobile phones to envirofone and got Argos vouchers for it and thought of using the money to get a new one. Tempted by the fast bake option, is it really good?

To be honest I hardly use mine for baking bread anymore as my husband has a thing about the smell of bread make in a breadmaker, doesn't like it for some reason.

I have been using mine to make dough for homemade pizza, it's brilliant, far nicer tan any shop bought one.

No (unless you need some bricks to build a wall or something). :) The breadmaker is good but I don't use the fastbake option anymore - the bread on that setting was 'orrible! On the standard setting it makes good bread though. After extensive testing I use 2 cups softgrain flour and 1 cup strong white flour, leave out the skimmed milk powder and use 'light' crust setting.

I think fastbake setting is okay for pizza dough though (not tried it myself as I prefer to make pizza dough by hand)

  • Does anyone have a tried and tested walnut bread recipe that they have made succesfully in the MR breadmaker? I could just experiment, but something that I know will work would be good. :) Bit worried about the walnuts ending up in one big clump!

Something close to the walnut bread that M&S sell in their instore bakery is what I am aiming for - quite light. Served warm, lightly toasted or just sliced as it is, this is the best bread ever with runny goats cheeses or any runny cheese like brie - yum! Would love to make homemade so I can eat it when it's still slightly warm and ultra-fresh. :)

I often add walnuts to the wholemeal bread recipe, or a little lighter, go half white flour, half wholemeal. Use a good dollop ?1 tablespoon of honey instead of sugar, add 1/2 cup of walnuts at the beep, we like it.

don't know the M&S bread, though, cannot compare. And no, the walnuts get nicely mixed in, no risk of clumping.
  • Thanks, will try that with half wholemeal half white - I found with some of the shop bought walnut loaves the flavour of the walnuts got a bit lost (Sainsburys/Waitrose etc) which is why I liked the M&S one as it is quite light. Sounds pretty much like a standard loaf, just with walnuts added - I usually use a tablespoon of runny honey instead of sugar anyway.
