Thanks everyone for the updates, I'll update the first page now.
Loving the ideas for the mini challenge Copperjar, I might join you from next month. I'm thinking of dividing my 'official' debt into 1000 x £35, and seeing if I can raise £35 1000 times. Ehallet did something similar, and I think it's a great idea. Obviously that won't include interest, but £35 is a relatively easy amount to raise. I won't include monthly payments, so they will hopefully cover the interest, and I'll just try and raise the £35 segments as overpayments."Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Glad to join in this challenge.
My target for 2011 is £10,100.
I've made a positive start to the year by selling my car and negotiating a reduced F & F on a loan through this i've managed to settle £2900 of debt with a reduction of £900 on the original balance.
I've also bought a car that although cheaper will bring me much more happiness. So win/win.0 -
Hello again everyone
I hope you're all well.
I've just rounded my bank account off to the nearest ten pound, so have paid a whopping £3.64 off another bill. I think I'm going to do this every week, as it will all add up, and i can pay more off my bills without actually noticing it. I've updated my signature too.
Oh no i've just remembered i paid £328.65 to a loan yesterday too, so my total now stands at £582.57 / £8000 = £7,417.43 left.
See you again soon,

I have had a bit of a hiccup this month. My good intentions have been thwarted
My pay date is the last Friday of the month but my wages always land in my account early so it could be Tues, Wed or Thursday. So Decembers pay day would have been Friday 31st December. In the past years I have been lucky to get my wages just before Christmas which is as broad as its long - if you get it before it is easy to be tempted and spend on the last minute must have things for Christmas. If you get it after - you haven't wasted it on those last minute must have things.......
Anyway I didn't get my wages before Christmas and was concerned about paying my CC which was due on the Thursday 30th December. I rang the CC up on the Wednesday saying my wages are due but with the Christmas holidays & bank holidays (Mon & Tues) I was worried that it wouldn't come through in time to pay cc, could I cancel the direct debit? They said no it was too late (even though not due till the next day)
I said I was worried about being charged - they said I wouldn't be charged (on reflection I think they were referring to the 1,000’s of delayed statements due to the bad weather but never the less that is what they said to me - I wouldn't be charged) However I did make a payment of £20 I guess I was trying to show willing
My wages finally showed up online on Thursday 30th. Over the next few days I kept checking with the bank to see if the cc payment had been paid as the CC told me it had - but I knew it had not been taken from my bank account. Eventually it turns out that it hadn't been paid so I have been charged by my CC £12 for late payment, £12 unable to collect payment £24 in total
On top of that my bank has charged me because they decided not to make the payment - I can't work out yet what they are going to charge me - might be £5
The root of the problem is that after my statement dated 5th Dec I decided that I would have all my DD coming out of one account. I contacted the CC to ask them to change the account of the DD and they said they would but it wouldn’t be for this statement period. I then got a letter dated 14th Dec confirming this and in bold it says to continue paying in the usual way.
However as I was anxiously waiting for the payment to be taken on the 30th I did notice that the CC DD instructions were now showing up on my 2nd account and this was the account that the CC were trying to take the money from and of course there wasn’t enough money in the account. I have rung them and told them they were in the wrong as they were the only ones to know that I was changing accounts and therefore they had organised too soon and that I shouldn’t be charged, although it is too late for the next statement and they have agreed. I now just have to sort out my bank as I don’t think I should be charged by them either. My wages didn’t show online till mid day on the Thursday but now I notice online it is showing my wages as being in my account on the Wednesday!
Sorry to ramble on but needed to get that off my chest. I have tried really hard to have a good start to the year by paying off £250.29 but feel my efforts have been marred by another blot on my copy book – they letter from the CC telling me I am overdrawn and they will not authorise any transactions – I know the letter has crossed over but it is just making me madSealed Pot Member 1111 = £29.43 £2 Coin Savers Member No 20 = £52
