Hi everyone
No payments to report at the minute, although it is payday on Tuesday so i'll be back then to show my reduced balance.
However, I feel it is necessary to get it off my chest that my finances aren't going to reduce this year. My target was £8k, and it shall remain at that. Initially, this amount would clear off my debts completely and all the money I earnt afterwards would be mine.:)
However, I was in a car crash in January and my car was written off. The insurance company paid me what they believed the vehicle was worth, which was a very small amount in comparison to the cars for sale.
Since the accident, I also found out that I'm pregnant, with my first child.:) Therefore, I have had to change my thought processes about buying a little runaround car to having a safe family sized vehicle. I know some of you may feel like shouting at me, but I opted against a second hand car as I still would have needed to get a loan or finance to cover the difference between what money I had and how much the cars are. So I chose to get a new car on one of those payment plans where I pay a relatively small amount (compared to loan repayments) and after 3 years I can trade in the vehicle for another. I know this means I will be with the car company for a very long time but at the minute it seems more realistic in terms of the amount to pay out each month.
So, husband and I have had a good old discussion and have decided to pay off as much to the outstanding debts as we can over the next few months, as I'm concerned about having to pay off the debts whilst i'm on reduced pay later in the year.
In terms of baby stuff though, I've been doing my own prce comparisons between the main stores to see which have the best prices and loyalty offers, so we know what to save up for (or ask for gifts from the soon to be grandparents!).
Sorry for the very long post, i don't have much else to do on a Saturday night it seems!!!
Hope you're all well.
Birdy
Congratulations on the pregnancy Birdy :j
We're not here to judge, so if that's the best option for you car-wise then so be it. At least the maintenance costs should be low with a new car.
You've still got your initial target to aim for, so if you make the £8k, then although you won't be debt free, you'll still have £8k less of debts!

went to the bank on Friday to get a list of direct debits on my account, cos suddenly realised hadn't cancelled ANY since time began. There were about 30 defunct ones on there!!!! One was a credit card which was cancelled about 10 years ago. So, have been going through it to see what I must cancel when I go back this Friday.
Also, current cards are set up for 4th/5th of the month - except for one which comes out on 23rd. As I've decided 2011 is the year of getting organised, I phoned them and changed it to 'between 3rd and 6th' of the month.
Also made some payments, so new total is

Thanks for all the updates everyone. I've won the lottery again today, woo hoo! So I'll transfer my huge winnings of £2.50 to my credit card.
Actually, I'm going to make it £9 to round down my balance.
Hope everyone had a good weekend!"Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Eoin McGee0 -

Hi there, please can you update my total to £3375.21/£13,000
I'm hoping to update tomorrow with a new figure as I am hopeful of a bonus which will make a dent in the outstanding debt. Taken me a year to earn it, but probably a week to spend it during my carefree times!
