Ebay Buyer query

paypal is a very safe way of sending/receiving money as long as you are aware of scammers who have very convincing ways such as emails with links to fake paypal sites who will then get all your details. always log on to paypal by going directly to their site, not from an (usually) unexpected email. I nearly fell for a scam, not with ebay but with abbey, we had recently opened an account with abbey and had a "security" email asking me to follow a link and give my details, it just looked "wrong " so I just deleted it and went onto the proper abbey site, the fake email looked very real, apart from the fact that there were a couple of grammatical errors and with me being a spelling pedant it rang alarm bells , in every other way it was identical to the real abbey site. I am sure that other people could have easily fallen for it. it really pays to be extra cautious, you can always check things out when you get "urgent" emails.0

I always use Paypal but I make sure I use it via my credit card, nopt my bank account, so I have the protection offered by my cc if anyhting goes wrong. I once bought boots via paypal and my cc from eBay, the boots were stolen as I took them home from work (where I'd had them delivered) and the cc paid out. That wouldn't have happened if I'd paid 'cash' via my bank account. I've never had a problem with paypal. DFW Nerd Club member 023...DFD 9.2.2007 :heartpuls married 21 6 08 :A Angel babies' birth dates 3.10.08 * 4.3.11 * 11.11.11 * 17.3.12 * 2.7.12 :heart2: My live baby's birth date 22 7 09 :heart2: I'm due another baby at the end of July 2014! :j

If you use paypal with your credit card it just takes the payment off your card.
It *is* the safest way to pay on ebay - paypal with a credit card, that is.My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -
Never send a cheque on ebay, you have no protection if you get scammed or your item does not arrive. Only ever use paypal backed by a credit card as then even if paypal can not recover your money your credit card can.
Ebay operates a two tier system, if you use cheques you can only ever reaise an ebay claim which costs £15 and only gets back the item cost and not the post and packing. A paypal claim is however free in most circumstances and recovers the full amount including p and p. Whilst ebay operate this two tier system it is unwise to use anything other than paypal for payment.

However for a buyer it is the safest method of payment, nothing else comes anywhere close..it is only sellers that need to take a little more care,

I'd just add to this, that when you send a cheque, not only do you send the seller your bank details, but also your specimin signature!
Paypal, whilst open to the occasional chargebacks and scamming, is a safer way to utilise your bank/ credit card details, as the seller never actually sees them, only paypal does.
If you use your noggin, and ignore links in ANY e-mails paypal or ebay send you about your account, and rather log-in to your accounts instead to "validate" the e-mails, you'll be fine.
Remember: If an e-mail DOESN'T have your actual name on it (as opposed to your ebay or paypal username) then it is fraudulent. It's BOUGHT (to Buy), not BROUGHT (to bring) AND you cannot be frauded, only DEfrauded.
Please do not buy animals from a pet store. Visit your local sanctuary or centre and give a good home to an unloved or abandoned animal.0
