Amazon Delivery Delay

  • I started my internet Christmas shopping the last week of November.

With one exception (City Link drama, but was resolved eventually) everything arrived within the estimated times, from Amazon, The Book People and a couple of small websites. Even if any were still outstanding now, there would be enough time for resolution before Christmas.

    Start early, stress less. :)
  • We have a book ordered from Amazon on Super Saver delivery on 4 Dec. Tracking says it was despatched from their Bedfordshire place on 7 Dec (a day after the estimate).

On 10 Dec it arrived at the North West Distribution Centre (which appears to be in Warrington). That is about 150 miles in the wrong direction as we are south of London!! And there it remains.

Amazon really don't want people contacting by phone when I tried to. A huge red sign indicates long delays on their phones (I tried). So I have used the email facility today.

Now this order was placed after the initial impact of the snow on rail and road and certainly by the time it was despatched. Why did it go north for heaven's sake!

We have another book on order too that has apparently despatched, but I was going to order another item, but will not now. Pity as I can only get it from there it seems.

I am also waiting for a delivery - one done through Amazon marketplace though. It should have been here by 2nd December but I was expecting a delay due to the weather. I only started to worry about it when all my Amazon deliveries arrived days ago and I'm still waiting for this one from another seller. I've emailed the seller on Saturday, but no reply as yet. I understand there are delays, but a reply from the seller would be helpful!

tbh, I think the retailers & carriers are doing their best* in very difficult conditions

my Amazon stuff's been touring all over the country :rotfl:

item 1) Royal Mail - Crymlyn Burrows Swansea UK (7th Dec) arrives at Princess Royal Distribution Centre (9th Dec)

item 2) Royal Mail - Order has been handed over to the carrier and is in transit (5th Dec) arrives at National Distribution Centre (10th Dec)

item 3) HDNL (5th Dec) - Order has been handed over to the carrier and is in transit, arrives at Glenrothes Depot UK, Delay in delivery due to external factors (7 Dec) returns to Glenrothes Depot UK (11th Dec) ... where was it for 4 those days?

item 4) HDNL - Order has been handed over to the carrier and is in transit (3rd Dec) & has not been seen or heard of since

*the exception being Amazon taking vikingaero's next day delivery order last Thursday, I would not have been happy about that

    Tell me about it

I live around 30 miles from the Amazon warehouse in South Wales.

I'm an Amazon Prime member. Last week I ordered an item worth around £30 which arrived the next day by RMSD.

The next day I ordered a £200 camera which appears to have been sent by standard recorded Royal Mail and is, after 6 days, nowhere to be seen. Tried to call to get an explanation only to get through to a call centre in the Phillipines which was useless. Tried to blame the weather in Scotland :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

    Where's my damn camera??

Im betting its been sent RM tracked, tracking number start FD?
of course the weather in Scotland can be to blame.
Amazon has fulfillment centres up here

The North & Scotland are still impacted by the snow, so delays are understandable, but not the South. The fact is that Amazon are choosing to use carriers that have listed delays when they could have used alternative carriers or refused to give an option on their website for next day delivery.

this is Edinburgh today(near Murrayfield for rugby fans)

We had deliveries from Hermes yesterday and the driver was telling us that the problem is that more and more people have been placing internet orders because they have been snowed in and worried that they wouldnt get their Xmas shopping done, couple this with the fact we are all buying more and more over the internet, and there is a national backlog of deliveries due to the snow. ALL courier companies are busy so I doubt the likes of Amazon can pick and choose which one to use at this time of year and probably having to plump for the less effective to try and clear the backlog.

We still have 11 more days so fingers crossed for all those who are waiting.

Yeah I'm waiting for an item (last of the Christmas presents thank goodness) dispatched by Amazon on the 2nd, it originally had tracking but now the site is telling me it can't track it - hmmm! I spoke to Amazon customer services and they said they can't track it either and if it hasn't arrived by Thursday to call them back and they'll issue a replacement. Which is all well and good but that's unlikely to arrive before Christmas if this one doesn't.

It's odd that whenever I've ordered from them before it's come from Bedford (I'm in London) - this is the 1st time an item's been sent from Scotland and just our luck, there's snow!
My parcel has been lying at the Royal mail national distribution centre since 5th December.
I am in Scotland but my parcel is being sent from Bedford, you would think they might get their act together.
Not a happy bunny as this is a Christmas pressie for my brother who has learning difficulties & he will not be too happy when I have no pressie for him :(
