He claims his friend have it already? Rubbish! I bet all his friends get to stay up late, eat what they like and never brush their teeth. In realitity all his friends are probably saying to their mums "but all my friends have it...."

There will be the exception to the rule as the odd parents do give in (and I bet we can all name some at the school gate) but most parents will not allow an 8yo and 18yo game. Just as you would not let your 8yo see the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, or SAW, or the new Cold Blood.

Actually, re-reading your post, he is only 7 now and will be barely 8 by Christmas.

I would tell him that he is not having it and it not to borrow it either. If he does then you will remove all games and force him to play Fluffy Bunnies for 3yo. (Or whatever baby games exist). But then I am a mean mummy!

I haven't played it but I have played all the other games in the Call of Duty series.

Extreme violence and swearing is par for the course. Modern Warfare featured several point-blank executions in cut scenes and there is also violence against attack dogs. Stabbing is also in the game. The conduct of some people on the online mode is also disgraceful.

I certainly wouldn't recommend anyone allow a young child to play this.

The simplest way to look at it is think of warfare, because that is what the game is representative of, then think of the tagline to Platoon (The first casualty of war is innocence).

    !

I think you would be surprised! When I taught 7 year olds several of them had this game at home.

Most of the parents involved genuinely had no idea what it was (they were just grateful of the peace and quiet whilst their boys were playing on the computer). To be fair the computer games industry has dramatically evolved over the past 20 years and a lot of parents have not kept up!

However there were parents (in the minority) who were of the opinion that it was absolutely fine for their children to be playing this as they were playing it with them! Like that makes a difference!

  • You're the parent- parent.
Say no, and tell him why. He needs to learn to accept no now; otherwise by the time he's 13, god help you.

  • i wont allow my 15 year olds to have it, so a definate no to an 8 year old, way too violent
loves to knit and crochet for others
  • Right i'm going against the grain here

    Its a game.
    Its fantasy
games have evolved since we played pacman
    Its not real

I have bought this for my 13 year old for Christmas, I also have a 10 year old and he will want to play it too.

I have no problem with them playing it. They have all the COD games. They are well adjusted and good kids, and yes WE DO CARE VERY MUCH about our children.

I am fairly confident they wont want to go and blow the heads off of people in the street.

We limit the time they play on the Xbox and all other consoles they have. If I were to say to them 'you know this is only a game right?' they'd look at me like i'm mad, of course they know its not real !

Never thought of buying them a football and letting them get some fresh air instead?

Our son will be 8 on sunday and he has asked for the new call of duty black ops on Wii, not knowing what it was about i went on the internet to find out what it was, then i noticed it was an 18 rating, i spoke to him about it and he said all my freinds have it in school.

I know that the 18 is put there for a reason but would you buy it for your son, and is it really that bad.

    Thanks.

no way would I buy an 18-rated game for an 8-year old, no chance (and I'm quite sure if you asked all his friends parents they'd tell you their kids don't have it either).
  • strawberry laces,

I have seen first hand the effects of these games on some young boys I have taught (the language they used and behaviour exhibited mirrored what they were seeing/hearing in these games). I am not saying your boys will do that however there are numerous other effects.

I have read various research papers in the subject so I guess we'll have to agree to disagree.
