    NO NO NO NO NO!

I have previously taught 7 year old children who are psychologically damaged partly as a result of playing this and similar games. There are numerous issues, main ones being:
    • young children CANNOT easily differentiate between fiction and reality (and these games are seriously realistic!)
    • these games have PROVEN to reduce sensitivity to violence in young children
    • these games involve "linking up" to other players online (CHILD PROTECTION!!!!)

If I had a young child I would not allow them to visit friends who play these games - as has already been stated they are 18 games for a reason.

It angers me to think that some parents out there just think its a case of teachers being "fuddy duddies" (I have been told this by a father of one of my pupils) - trust me - it's not!

P.S - I am not in any way anti-computer games (I am in fact a geek with an IT degree). These games are great if you are of suitable age to play them!

Our son will be 8 on sunday and he has asked for the new call of duty black ops on Wii, not knowing what it was about i went on the internet to find out what it was, then i noticed it was an 18 rating, i spoke to him about it and he said all my freinds have it in school.

I know that the 18 is put there for a reason but would you buy it for your son, and is it really that bad.

    Thanks.

My kids are younger than yours but my husband is a total game geek. He has black ops and IMO way way way too violent and graphic for an 8 year old.

My OH has this game for the ps3 but im guessing its just the same on the wii. I wouldnt at all say its suitable for an 8 yo and although you may feel a bit rotten for a short time as his friends have it you will be doing your son a favour in the long run because this game is far too violent for such a young child in my opinion.

Can you chat with your son and find out exactly which friends have the game or are getting it?

Some of the friends may have older sibs or dad who plays and that's how they have come across it.

Some you may find come from families that don't have a care for what their children do or don't do.

Some the parent may not have looked in to it at all.

If any of these friends have mothers that you're friends with maybe you could in a round about way and all innocence ask what they think of the game and see where that leads you.

Remember that at the minute you only have these childrens say so, they may not be getting it at all.

However, don't even let mine watch The Simpsons so you may think I'm a bit extreme......

    Panorama covered it last week.

I wouldn't buy it for an adult, never mind an 8 year old.

  • no - infact i believe "santa" is "struggling to get it this year" as it has "sold out due to christmas". however he did manage to get "this game".
loves how my "I've been censored" signature has been censored. LOL. Happy Christmas. :xmastree:
  • No way.

I actually wouldn't buy it for anyone; it's so sad that it's such a big hit.
