Still can't understand why a 7yr old needs a mobile.

Is it a PAYG or Contract either way how will a 7yr old be able to pay for top-ups or the monthly fee?

My nephew got his mobile at 12yrs old only because he was at high school and the bus is unreliable and needs picking up at times, it's was just the cheapest PAYG so if lost, stolen or broken it's no big loss.

But an iPhone for a 7yr old you must be mad, it could be broken by Boxing Day.

If a 7yr old must have a mobile, get a 99p PAYG from Carphone Warehouse
  • i think 7 years old is too young for a phone..

i have just brought a vx1 mobile from poundstrecher £20 inc £10 topup for my 13 year old nephew, brillant bit of kit small and cheap, amazon also sells them

i have daughter aged 8. if she asked for 99p phone she would be told to clear off.

its only going to make your child vulnerable and possibly a tagert.

stay away until they are old enough to know what they doing.

what would you do it they got a naughty pic sent to there phone by mistake.

Thank you for all your comments and parental advice. Im sorry but Im not going to get into when he will have it etc, what I asked was if anyone had any experience of the phone (thank you Sublime). I trust all of you who commented on whether he should have the phone or not all have experience of having a 7 year old at home with you recent years, Im a great believer in never judging till you have walked 1000 footsteps in that persons shoes. :-)

Why not ask the recipient? (When my daughter was 7 she wanted a mobile phone (and/or a pony)) both firm no!
Her Auntie got her a payg phone, then when the credit expired she asked me to top it up, again firm no! thatis her Auntie's responsibilty.
But back to that, suppose a phone with a camera and games if you really must :o
  • 3310? thats what i got when i was 11
  • I have an 8 year old dd who has been asking for mobile for about a year, i have told her straight that she has no chance of getting one till she starts senior school when she will be going out on her own but until then she has no need of one, whether her friends have one or not.

She has asked santa for a laptop this year, which she also has no chance of getting lol.

Actually I enjoy the peace and quiet... :)
  • I have kids of this age and older so feel I can comment from experience. I agree with one of the other posters in that I would not consider getting them any sort of mobile until they were at least in secondary school.

Why can't people just say no to their kids?
