Ripped off at Starbucks and Debenhams!

Starbucks is my treat, I have cut down drastically though, used to be on 2 a day.
We had a Costa in the building where I used to work:eek: That was lethal, but then I was earning a decent salary then and could afford it.
As far as I know, there is only one Costa, and no Starbucks:(, over here, and thats at the end of the pier!! Occasionally its worth the walk, but it does save my pennies a bit.0 -
I think I'll take a turn at wading into a situation I wasn't present at either, but based on the op

I can see how in the rush and crush of Christmas shopping with hoardes of bumbling, bulky-bagged idiots gumming up the shops and coffee chains being hot, busy, rushed, noisy places that this could happen. Especially when you get silly things like sizes written in different code in each chain, and ridiculous flavours added to what you usually think of as just a cup of coffee. If I saw a cup of coffee for £x, or what appeared (in a stressful noisy hot etc environment) to be coffee and cake for £x+90p, I could easily order it in the bustle, and be horrified with a sticky syrupy gloop when I thought I was getting a good (if expensive) normal coffee and bite of ginger cake (costing 99p for a loaf in Tesco). OP has my sympathy, and now knows better, and that people buy these hideously oversweetened flavoured drinks with a hint of coffee :-$
My coffee tastes extend to Pret a Manger's 99p filter coffee - tasty and good value and comes in one size with no options for funny flavours, cream, pollutants, etc. "Please can I have a white coffee to take away?" isn't met with a list of questions about supermassimigranoventi, etc. Just "99p please". Brilliant in its simplicity.
As for Debbies, worth a call? Unlikely they meant to cheat you.0 -

Now that is what I call a rip off! OK, OK I saw the price list but after being stuck in traffic for hours was desperate.

There is no doubt both Costa and Starbucks are expensive, we cannot call them a rip off when the price is clearly displayed. As expensive as it is (probably costs about 4p per cup at home), we still pay it, enjoy it and go back for more.
Like other members I use such places as a treat, in Manchester we are spoilt for choice when it comes to Coffee shops, yet I still find myself paying that little bit extra for the convenience of sitting down with a nice hot coffee that I can take my time with (maybe even make use of the free Wi-Fi).:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

I have only used Costa and Starbuck once and only because we were desperate to have a drink
I wouldn't use them normally I do think prices are expensive but that said if its made clear then I see no problem. I dont really like strong coffee and also a penny pincher due to knowing whats its like not to have money much of my life:)0 -
