For a present missed I would add around 50% to the value of what I'd normally spend. So if you normally spend a fiver on him, I'd push the budget this time to £7.50.
But obviously depends on your money situation. I know a lot of people are struggling right now and I would hate to see anyone (particularly in-laws) go without significantly to get me a present. But anything's better than nothing and I believe everyone, within reason, can stretch to something from the pound shop.

Hi Jane 130 - bearing in mind it got missed (and we all have times like that!) - why not just send a really nice belated card and then get something for Christmas? I know men are never much for birthdays but the card would show you remembered after all.

Sorry I didn;t get back to this Yesterday - Hubby had the day off work hence the disagreement starting in the first place !

I have always given him a gift on his birthday , just something small - however this year things have been a bit up in the air and his birthday got missed :( I feel totally awful about it and was saying to dh yesterday we need to do something to make up for it and his arguement was that we don't need to get him a gift anyway so don't need to worry about missing it !

I just couldn't get it through to him that just becuase our parents don't buy gifts for us doesn't mean we shouldn't - in fact if he thinks we will end up like either of our parents I may consult a solictor now !! LOL

Thanks so much for your responces .

Now how to make it up to him for missing his birthday this year ?

    When was his birthday?

Have you mentioned anything to him or your daughter about forgetting his bday?

  • I voted yes too.
  • Along with their christmas gift, I'd probably put a cinema gift card in for a tenner with a note saying belated birthday wishes x

I would buy a present, but dont always get them of my in-laws even if it was something small it shows you have thought about them.

Yes I would buy a gift for him. It doesn't have to be expensive just a fun token gift. Seems an odd thing to have an issue about seeing as this guy is a major part of your daughters life!

    OMG!

    Yes of course you should!!!!!

My family have spent the same amount as they spend on me on my OH since the first year we got together! They treat him the same as thier own. I can't believe you need to ask this! Its common decency!!
