I have opened the ebay dispute and the seller is not wanted to resolve. As all they have said is that Royal mail says its been signed for by myself when it havent. The seller still seems to think that i have signed for the item which i havent done. I called Royal Mail myself and was asked to fill in a P 5 8 form which the seller wouldnt because they were not risking losing the proof of postage. i have furthered the case to ebay customer support.
If you paid with paypal just open an INR dispute and you will win as the item is not showing as delivered on the RM tracking. The sender will have to chase RM for compensation. You do not have to do anything else.
  • I've just had a delivery from Citylink, and they guy said 'I'll fill in your name' and I said yes.
Then online it states signed by customer, more certainly with my name scribbled somewhere....

Anybody could have accepted delivery and not even have to sign.... First time it's ever happened, didn't click he was going to sign in my name, not all deliveries require signature.

    Tracking is definitely not safe!

OP can you fax/scan a copy of your passport or driving licence to the courier so they can see that the signature is different maybe? There have been cases like this posted here before which were resolved, but with the seller's cooperation.

  • I have a massive problem and am not sure what to do here.

I ordered an item on ebay in November costing £300, it should have been here by now so I contacted the seller and asked where it was. The seller came straight back to me with a electronic copy of the proof of delivery signature slip from UK mail saying the item was delivered on the 17th November and signed for with my surname.

The worrying thing is I was out all day then and the signature on the proof of delivery is not mine, although it is my surname! I have told the seller this but as he has a proof of delivery he doesn’t want to get involved and feels that he have done his part.

I called UK mail and the call centre claim they spoke to the driver today and the driver said he can remember a male answering the door and that he went to the right address (very good memory for 21 days ago)

I asked UK mail for a head office or complaints number or for a description of the person who signed for it seeing as the driver has such a good memory and they haven’t come back to me yet.

What can I do here and where do I stand, surely signing my name is illegal, when I checked with my neighbors to see if they had it by mistake one of my neighbors recalls seeing a parcel left outside my door a few weeks ago – however I haven’t come home to any parcel left on my door recently.

Thanks for any help in advance, I have opened a ebay dispute

My guess would be delivery driver has signed using the name on the parcel and left it on your doorstep, a passer by has probably helped themselves to it. The courier can't admit to this as he'd be in trouble for doing that and therefore suddenly remembers a specific delivery from 3 weeks ago.

I had the same thing with Parcelforce, luckily for me the box containing my Wii was still on the doorstep when I got home from work, even more so as the signauture the delivery driver had forged (with good intentions) was almost identical to my actual signature so would have had a hard time proving it wasn't me!

Do you have to sign in at work? If not is there a manager who can vouch that you were at work between X & X on that day and therefore could not have signed for the item? I would definitely report it to the Police as the thought of the Police getting involved may focus the courier comapnies mind in assisting you ;)

On more than one occassion delivery companies have claimed to either deliver or attempt delivery, but my cctv system has shown otherwise. I like to point out the 400 degrees per second, pan tilt & 280x zoom speed dome camera when they come back to the door to protest that they did deliver. For some strange reason after pointing a few of the cameras out they dont want to come in and watch any footage and the package either appears or compensation is paid out.

BTW there is no second hand market for these £2500 cameras (Tescos and the likes dont buy 2nd hand) and they can be readily be picked up for ~£100-£150 on fleabay.

A colleqague of mine had this with DHL where the driver had allegedly delivered 2 TVs to their address and got a work man to sign for them. The workman hadn't signed for them but had given his surname when asked for it by the delivery guy. DHL head security bod (ex-policeman) got involved, interviewed my colleague and the workman who showed him a copy of his signiture which didn't resemble the signiture on their documentation. The security chap suspected it was the DHL chap who forged the signiture and was going have a word with him and in his words "if it is him I'll take him straight to the Police station myself so we can dismiss him and have him charged".

You are bound to get the odd dodgy person who is responsible for making deliveries especially when times are hard. :(

I have exactly the same issue but other way round: I'm the seller and he was returning an item. Fake signature on Royalmail with my surname as recipient.

Did you get this resolved at all?

Just to say this is a criminal offence which a lot of people report to the police. Quite often there isn't much that can be done, but they check for CCTV, question neighbours and check around generally. It is time dependant though so the report needs to be made asap.
  • Hi All
    Thanks for helping so far,

Its not still not sorted, ebay closed the claim in the sellers favour, I have reported it to the police but they are not doing much, I have spoken to the regional manager at UK mail and he openly said he sides with his driver - I dont seem to be getting anywhere - does anyone have a UK Mail address for a director etc and not the bog standard customer services as they keep forwarding my letters to the regional manger
