  • Hi everyone, this is my first post on here but I am very excited about getting involved!

I am currently on maternity leave and due back in feb (after 39 weeks) but I have asked if I may take 52 wekes and return in may when my daughter turns 1, this means I have no income for 3 months so really need to save.

    So far I have:
-switched utilities saving £200 per year
-bought a few birthday gifts in advance through top cash back (as well as the utility switch and a few other bits) cashback acc total £85
transfered credit card balance to another card 0% for 17 months saving £100 per month inc £30 per month payment protection
transfered hubbys savings to higher interest account which should earn £200 this year
found 3 old mobiles I need to cash in
found an old boots card I have over £10 points on which I will spend towards sister in laws bday gift
found £25 tesco vouchers which I plan to spend on rewards and get brother in law a magazine subscription for his birthday
I have also found £17 worth of change which I'm gonna put thinking cap on and try to double by the end of the month
I have lots of old maternity and baby clothes as well as cds and dvds to list on ebay in the next few weeks

Also me, my sister and my step mum are having a weekly tea exchange so on tues eve I will cook a fish pie for 6 adults, my step mum is cooking 6 portions of beef casserole and my sister is cooking 6 portions of bolognese. The idea is that we will eat our 2 portions of fish pie on tues eve then on weds take the other portions to them and in return be given weds and thu eve teas. Should save some time cooking and buying in bulk costs less so well see how it goes.

Lastly I am planning all lunches and teas etc and doing my weekly shop online sticking to my plan so I dont overbuy

looking forward to picking up more tips

My main technique for January is going to be visualisation :D
Sitting back and visualising the money rolling in and the bank balance increasing :rotfl:
    I've made £0 so far :p
    Just £10,852.28p to go...

    :D

Part of the Furniture 1,000 Posts Combo Breaker I've been Money Tipped!
Have been desperatley needing new saucepans for ages so have just bought from Tesco with some vouchers I found out I had from over a year ago on their clubcard page(£61 I didnt know about!) - well worth checking that page out. So here is another £60 towards my target, I will take that amount out of one bank account and put it into the another one I am using for this purpose. Total so far £100 with the extra money from MIL.

Hey Em, it worked for my car! yep we still have to pay for it but we've got a far far better car than we should have for the money and ticks all the boxes for us. I worked at being excited about the "new" car that was going to come into our lives rather than being p***ed off at our other albatross car finally giving up the ghost at a terrible time of year. DH thought I was a bit crazy saying things like: we'll be able to fit in parking spaces easier in our new car; we'll pay less on petrol; it'll cost us less tax etc; and I'm really excited to see what it'll look like. Then we got the offer of exactly what we were wishing for but even better. yay!
    Jo !
