  • Hi
I haven't posted on this thread before but I read it while I was on maternity leave, and it helped spur me on to up up up my income!

    This is what I did:
Went from 4 to 5 days per week: £5420
Went for and gained a promotion at work: £2535
Started my own business doing science activities with kids in holidays: £2250
Sold 2 phones on the envirophone website: £18
Swapped my utilities over using Quidco: £22
Cut back on groceries by buying inferior brands: £600
Stopped buying lunch at work (well, mostly..) £120

Total income has been upped by: £10 965. Some of this will be lost in tax though..do I need to give nett figures?

Thanks very much for your inspiration on here! :T
  • forgot to add a baby's swinging cot sold for £4...so £10969! :)
  • That is some pretty awesome work there meds! You count it however you like, but that is an exceptional money making effort.
    DFW - DEBT FREEEEEE!

    Total - 10762/10762 :)

Every silver lining has its cloud.

So finally debt free and it feels amazing however continuing here to stay debt free.Next declutter house and body and finally swim under that waterfall x
  • Well done everyone with your totals, I fell by the wayside this year :(

I will look out for the new thread elly on the 1st Dec and sort out some plans in the month leading up to the 1st Jan.

Our money situation is getting worse by the day at the mo, and did my ebay accounts for 2010/2011 and found out I only made £22 a week!! Not bad for 18 hours a week

Never mind onwards & upwards x

Hi, I have been reading through this thread and its very inspirational. I would love to join this challenge in 2012 and have found the 12K in 2012 thread over on the savings and investments board. However it seems to focus more on making cut backs to save money rather than earning extra.

I was just wondering if that will be the only 2012 thread? Its just as a sahm I would like to have the challenge seperate from savings made through normal spending. I don't think I can get close to making thousands but anything is better than nothing.:D

I'ts been on my mind that I really need to take work and tax costs off these figures - so a brief adjustment is in order.

The £5420+£2535 = £7955 which sounds great, but literally after tax, NI, student loan, childcare & petrol this is reduced to £2700 - a big decrease :(

I'll update the new biz total when I've worked out my tax bill for that, but costs will prob account for about £1k of the total.

So not quite as impressive as the headline figure suggested. Oh well, it's a step in the right direction at least :)
  • Is it possible or does anyone want to hear some success stories from the last few years? I know a lot of people ending up setting their own businesses as a result of this challenge. Shall I see if I can get details and a little update on how they are doing? Would that spur anyone on to start next year?
    VR repayment  £404  £156.02 PAID
    Airpods repayment £249 £185 £75.90 PAID
    Airpods repayment £144 £99.01 PAID

    Capital One £1400

Yes I concur - I started mine after reading this thread and could probably build it up to the point where I could leave my normal job and be better off...I've also signposted a friend of mine over here to this board and she has said it was very, very useful - she has some sort of internet shop-thing going on :)
