Have got the new sewing machine set out on the kitchen table and thats the first quilted cushion made. Cost to make £4.20(including the actual cushion, hopefully sell at about £8-£9. Really quite pleased as it must be about 20 years at least since I last used a sewing machine, it took two hours but hopefully I will get better as it did take a bit of figuring out what to do step by step.
I am going to make cushions, bags, aprons, tea cosies etc in materials like Laura Ashley, Cath Kidston etc and have a boxful - hopefully - made to take a table at a sale in the springtime. Just waiting on a fair bit of stuff to come from ebay and buying online. I have given myself a budget of £75 as start-up money for materials
Its a start!!Every days a School day!0 -
evening hales, dilli, rosie, Em, Nikki and everyone else, looks like we are all ready to go for the new challenge! i am still on the old one until the 31st but don't think there will be any more to add, just wish could find another £32 to hit the 7k , however that's the orders coming in for january/feb - 6 already! will also have to be a bit more creative this year as have no p/t job, not counting the extra at work and have got rid of most of the junk although did get new slippers for christmas so may give the old ones to the dog to chew for a bit if i get desperate! have started a terramundi pot, (MUST not try and get the money out with tweezers tho'!), cleared the house of all coins under 10p and put in another pot, have made a list of presents & gifts needed for this year.
so mini challenges for me for the net week to get me started are
1)list 10 things on ebay by wednesday 5/1/11
2)list new advert on Gumtree by wednesday 5/1/11
3)contact local crafting association to find out whats going next year by 31/12
4) start my "budget" bags again - found this great when i did it last year, one for shopping, one for kids dinner money, one for petrol and anything left in them at the end of the week will go in the pot and be counted this year.
5) find a local building society to keep the money in with a pass book and not a card - Nationwide is closing locally and loved going to put the money in and seeing the balance go up, also meant i had to physically go and take the money so thought twice about it.
right off to bed now will be 6am before i know it, take care, catch up later

Hi,
I have made a small start by sending some broken gold jewellry to Hatton Garden Metals. Tutti I know what you mean about not being able to part with some things, I have a few bits I know I will never wear, but they have sentimental value. My plan is to use any money I get from selling the gold to buy some things that I can sell for profit on ebay (not sure what yet!) I have a few things to list and plan to spend a few days in the loft this week looking for more bits to sell. I did wonder whether this soon after Christmas was a good time to sell or whether to wait until next month? Jess0 -
Im not sure what type of things you can include on this?
Can you include the saving you made on getting gifts/essentials in the sale or on special offer for example? Also if you made somone a gift instead of buying one could you include the difference between how much you would of spent to how much the make cost?Looking forward to new ventures :beer:0 -
I am not going to buy any Christmas presents this year for people (except my kids) but i am going to make soap baskets. There is a soap school in leeds that runs weekend courses at £250 each - does anyone think it is worth it? Apparently you need a license to sell at car boot and have to get certificated here to sell soap?
Zangels - i have decided that the only way i will get to my target is if i include all the little extras that i should have spent if i had bought it myself.Grocery Challenge - Jan £4.42/£200.00

think I'm going to have to have a look around my house to see what I can ebay soon to make a start with this £11,000! I'd like to do another car boot sale this year, however at the last few ones I've struggled to make much of a profit0

Excellent plan suzybloo.;)
Do you find that craft fairs are the best place to sell? I was wondering whether ebay or one of the craft buying/selling sites were the best?
If I added savings made and overtime then I would do alot better, should I? Already arranged to do 20 hours overtime in jan, and I'm giving up various things in the new year which will save a significant amount. Would like to keep a record of these too, but as this is the 'up your income' board dont feel they are income.
Personally I'm going to use Jan to sort stuff out to sell on ebay but list it from feb as I don't think anyones got any spare cash right now, so you won't get as good a price.0 -
Hi everyone
I have put Birthday and Christmas money aside as savings/money to invest and have made an extra £40 so far elsewhere towards my total. I have started making a spreadsheet so I can organise my money making to help see where I excelled and where went not so great in the challenge.
I have bought a few items to sell on ebay at hopefully a profit, will be selling quite a few childrens clothes, toys, and ungiftable gifts too which should hopefully bring in a nice chunk.
I'm retraining this year to help up my income so will need to work around that but I have mystery shops booked, won some on bingo and have surveys to get on with for now.
I'm thinking of using some profit to invest in a sewing machine to start crafting to sell on etsy, I would appreciate any help/advice from anyone who may know about these things, it's a bit of a risk but what have I got to lose?
Good luck everyone, you can do it!Comping wishlist for 2017

You do need to be licensed to sell soap as it contains caustic soda which can obviously cause harm if not neutralised correctly.
Does the course include this license? I know that each recipe has to be okayed by your local council. Precise scales can cost around £190.
Not wanting to put you off but its a bit expensive to start off with. I've looked into it (I make soap for myself) but I can't justify the cost to go pro (IYKWIM?)
Skint - I have a PM from you but I can't seem to open it?0 -
