Well the company the pension was with (I left a few weeks ago - but I have a full time job)... is like I said privately owned by the church and ran by the church. My department name was teenage staff (although I'm 20 lol). I only worked there 7 hours per week. Are the unions ran through the companies themselves or is it smething different?

The job role was a party hostess and the company is a childrens indoor playland, so soft play type thing.
  • Unions are independant bodies, that are made up of employees (usually in the same industry). They stand up for you in the case of a dispute and most offer other benefits as well - eg discounts on things relevant to your job, often discounts on general stuff too.

Go to http://www.worksmart.org.uk/unionfinder/ to find the right union for you. If your workplace has not recognised an official union, you may have to set up a direct debit, otherwise you can get it taken from your wage packet.

Everyone who is employed should be in a union. Sooner or later, you will need their help, even if it is just for cheaper training or something.
Goal = £9,000 in 2011, starting in March
    Current total - £779 banked by 09/04/11
Also growing, scrimping and crafting to not need as much in the first place!

Fredula - You could always try having a word with ACAS (08457 47 47 47), if they can't help then they should be able to point you in the correct direction. All discussions with them are confidential.

Agree with the earlier posts as well, it's always good to involve unions as they can give good advice and assistance.

  • Couldn't agree more with SandP and ButterPie regarding unions. If you can get help in your situation Fredula, then take it, - my OH was told on Friday that the subcontractor he works for is cutting everyone's pay rate by 20% across the board - effective immediately!! ( And this guy already cut everyone's rate before Christmas!) He hasn't been officially told yet, but the other guys he is working with got a letter to that effect on Friday, so his is prob in the post. What can you do about that? Sorry to rant on, but it makes me so angry
when people are treated this way, and basically they have a choice - take the hit or find another job, and there are not so many of them around!

sorry to hear that claudiac i think when they do that claudiac that they hope people will move on rather than paying redundancy as you know two pay cuts in a row is just forcing people to find an alternative
So finally debt free and it feels amazing however continuing here to stay debt free.Next declutter house and body and finally swim under that waterfall x

  • Morning all,

Hope everyone is getting on ok and that February is as profitable as January.

I would just like to report that my current account was in the black yesterday by £7.80. This doesn't sound much, but usually it is minus £900!

And it's pay day today so I'm properly in the black for the first time in ages - thanks to this thread :j

AND I'm going to pay off my BC (the lowest amount, but highest interest) too! 1 down, 2 to go :o

Oh, one more thing - from another post in this forum, I emailed my local council to ask about a job during the elections. There are about 6 different roles and they are paid positions. Sent my application off, so fingers crossed for a cash injection in May! :D

    Well done Green Saints!!

Lucy, did you get my pm reply???

I was part of a fab AVON swoop in our local town yesterday which was fantastic....we were basically giving away lipstick anoles and getting details of anyone who might want to be a rep ... A real step out of my comfort zone just talking to strangers but really enjoyed it by the end ... And hopefully will all help me on the way to my £11k too :).
