Was your friend's little one as young as 6 months old? Even if she was, from what you have said, she was being offered milk, but preferred to hold off until her mummy was home. At least she has the choice. I think it's quite cruel to withold milk from a baby all day. Yes, babies can adapt, but perhaps parents should adapt within reason, to suit the baby too?

She was 6 or 7 months iirc, she was having a small amount of solid food. She was offered artificial formula AND expressed milk in cups and bottles and turned her nose up at the lot! The mother was prepared to feed at home and offer other milks during her working days but daughter had other ideas. I absolutely agree that it'd be cruel to WITHOLD milk but that was not the case here. And yes, she was doing a lot of night feeds to catch up!

I've always used the example of coke and pepsi when explaining the difference between formulas. Pretty much the same basic but some people prefer one to the other, but they are about as good (or bad) as each other

    i agree......
aptamil here too..... When i had my first set of twins i bf for first two weeks, but i was failing badly. I sent my ex out to get the milk and it was snowing so boots didn`t have a great choice and he brought 4 tubs of aptamil lucky enough they got along with it.
Im using aptamil again.. i find it the most expensive out of all the brands though...:)

They would feed overnight too, usually. so not just two feeds. cluster feeding in evening with night feeds would bring it to the same level as day feeding.

That wouldnt work with my LO. She has at LEAST 2 night feeds, 4 day/evening feeds and does cluster feed before she goes to bed.
    Yeah I agree

    PS what is cluster feeding?

    What Susan said. :p

Just what every full time working mother needs: to be up all night feeding...
I coslept (still do for half the night) - that way you aren;t up at all, you just get a boob out, and if you sleep with no top on they latch themselves on.

Apparently some breastfed babies have lots of little feeds really close together so they are almost being fed constantly. Usually in the evening I believe.

Pretty much all BF babies will do this if fed on demand. It's the way they are programmed to feed.

But yes, cluster feeding is a cluster of feeds, happens in the evenings as they tank themselves up for their bigger sleep.

I'm sure it's not intentional but I thought you might like to know that you are coming across as slightly antagonistic. I'm sorry if my comments on your advice to the OP have put your back up but I really did feel it to be such bad advice that I had to comment and it wasn't anything personal against you.

The only time I didn't breastfeed my daughter when she wanted it was when she had fed for over seventy minutes and was sicking it straight back up. In almost three years she never cluster fed.

Sorry. not it's not intentional, probably caused by trying to post quickly while doing three other things at once! I'm sure you know that feeling. I just don;t want to ignore people's replies to things I've said or brought up originally, so I'm trying to reply speedily and that may mean I'm not coming across very well. apologies for that. No-one has put my back up :)

  • I have just had another look at this site after a gap of a few months, and as always, regardless of the differences in opinion, it's very useful for comparing how one baby is different/similar to another in terms of their adaptability to different milk and feeding methods.

Now, I would like to ask if anyone can help with solving the problem of diahorrea (Sp?) infected babies.

My son is mostly breast-fed, but recently we have been told by doctor's that we must change to formula milk. The fact that my wife's milk supply can be severely affected when she has a cold also means that formula is at the required stage.

We have been using Cow & Gate, and we have noticed that recently his poos have been runnier, although we don't believe it's his milk as he has been a bit unwell.

However, someone else I know says that their baby has had the watery poos since when she started using C&G. She now wants to try Aptamil.

I am wondering if it's the milk, and I'm also wondering/wanting to know if your baby's poos have become runnier since moving them through the babyfgood jar/solid stages.

    Can you help me please?

    Thankyou.
