As they say- in the first year, FOOD IS FUN.First baby born 10/06/10:heartpuls 6lb 10z:heartpulsI love my little family0

I'd be suprised if a six month old baby could go a full working day with no milk though - mine was still fully breastfed.
I know quite a few women whose babies have done and do. I know it seems impossible when you are BFing a baby, but if needs must then they can and do adapt. DFW Nerd Club member 023...DFD 9.2.2007 :heartpuls married 21 6 08 :A Angel babies' birth dates 3.10.08 * 4.3.11 * 11.11.11 * 17.3.12 * 2.7.12 :heart2: My live baby's birth date 22 7 09 :heart2: I'm due another baby at the end of July 2014! :j

Same here. My friend's little one refused all milk drinks during the days she was in nursery, preferring to feed feed feed once she and mum were reunited. (Bless). I found it astonishing that she went so long, but she seemed to cluster feed during the evenings of the nursery days. Probably had the usual amount of milk, just at a different time of day! They call me Dr Worm... I'm interested in things; I'm not a real doctor but I am a real worm.0 -

Exactly. I'm a big fan of BLW and totally get that food is fun before they're one, but there is no law that says they have to do all their eating (of milk) in daylight hours. My friend who did it with her third (now 5) had to start unbuttoning her top as she walked up the drive as he'd be waiting for her at the door in daddy's arms and just latch straight on!
As an aside on the centiles, Michelle, being on the 25th doesn;t mean she is small for her age, the centiles are a range, 50th being average, 95th furthest above average and 9th being furthest below, but it isn;t small for the age, it is just a smaller person than average, so it doesn;t indicate anything nutritionally. Your LO is just as healthy and normal as a child on the 95th centile line. Just like someone who is 5ft is no less healthy or normal than someone who is 6ft. We can;t all be the same size! (My DD is on the 9th, was born there, we are small families. I was told by a HV it is only a concern if they drop more than 2 centiles). my goodness...K would have been starving at 6 months if he was only getting milk in the morning and night, at 6 months he was nowhere eating enough to satisfy his appetite. let alone go for the whole day with not having milk.'Children are not things to be moulded, but are people to be unfolded'0

They would feed overnight too, usually. so not just two feeds. cluster feeding in evening with night feeds would bring it to the same level as day feeding. :j

I know I already replied to this but I feel I cannot leave such a statement without a more detailed response:
For young babies their most important source of nutrition is milk regardless of whether this is breastmilk or formula. At six months, even if a baby has started weaning "early" milk should be their main source of nutrition and any solids food should be in addition to and not in place of milk. I understand that different people have different circumstances which require them to do things in different ways but to make a six month old baby go for a full working day with only solid food and water and no milk is wrong. If it were better to give a baby solid food than formula then the WHO would be advising people who were formula feeding to wean earlier than those who give breast milk whereas in fact they do not consider the type of milk given to be a factor in determining when to wean.

Just what every full time working mother needs: to be up all night feeding...0 -
An older child, maybe 9/10 months might be able to hold out for milk during working hours for a couple of days a week... But a 6month old is not capable of going a full working day, 5 days a week without milk. It's not healthy.A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... you never mentioned that in your original post.skintchick wrote: »just feed them in the evening and morning
mind you, as a working mum...i;m shattered and not very good at my job when we have a restless night...it would be a nightmare having to make sure baby got enough milk overnight. and no doubt weaning them off the night times feeds would be very hard.'Children are not things to be moulded, but are people to be unfolded'0
