Appliances Online - avoid!

  • Do Not Use Appliances Online

I purchased an appliance from the online retailer Appliances Online and felt the need to post my view of their customer service, this being due to the fact that I was so aggrieved with their customer service and lack of professionalism.

I have never previously felt the need to spend time to rant about by experiences online, however this company was awful in dealing with the delivery, installation and aftercare that would be expected when purchasing a product (of some few hundred pounds) from a company.

The sales staff, albeit polite prior to taking the money have a terrible attitude once your purchase has been paid for.

The delivery of my new washing machine was a mess - first of all the item turned up being an incorrect model!! once this had been resolved with a new delivery (having to wait a further 4 days), the delivery men damaged part of my kitchen when removing the existing appliance to be recycled. Additionally the sales staff on the telephone were unhelpful...with similarities of the comedy line 'the computer says no'. I would have got more sense at London Zoo talking to an Aardvark.

I work in a corporate environment where customer service is at the pinnacle of ensuring repeat business - I can safely say Appliances online will not be receiving repeat business from me or anyone of my friends or family who so wishes to purchase new appliances.

I suggest avoiding this company and try another online distributor.

I had no problem with them two week ago.

I purchased a fridge freezer online on Thursday morning and it was delivered at 8am the following Sunday morning with at least 6 texts advising me of updates of the order then a call from the delivery driver when he was ten minutes away.

I couldn't fault them and i live in the HD postcode area.

I ordered from them when I was having my kitchen done in April. The delivery turned up when expected.

The only issue I had with them were silent calls. They did leave their phone number and when I phoned back first I couldn't get through on that number. I then phoned them on a different number and they denied they had called me.

Finally I got annoyed with them and reported them to OFCOM.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

This is an old thread, revived today so they've probably been doing it mostly right in the meantime. I bought a washing machine from them and had no complaint about the speed and the service.

  • We purchased our new washing machine from Appliances Online recently and couldn't be happier with the service we received.

All delivered when it was supposed to be and installed efficiently.

The only criticism (small though it is) is that we probably didn't need reminding quite so many times, by text and telephone, of our delivery time - we lost count in the end. But if you are of a forgetful nature then this company are definitely the ones for you :D

Was there not a washing machine previously in that location? If yes, what did that connect to?

I fitted my own new washing machine recently - very easy except for getting the cold water feed hose to engage with the tap thread! GRRRR. (And that should have been the easiest bit).

Appliances Online (Part of Winning Appliances group) Sydney Area--Delivery person SMSd this morning at 630 am to confirm delivery. Paul from the Winning Group called at 730 am to confirm delivery and time. I thought he said between 10 and 2--when the stove did not arrive at 4 pm I phoned customer service--she called driver--and i was told it would be there by 5 pm. My husband waited at th office for the delivery until 6 pm. At that time we tried to call customer service again and was put on hold for 20 minutes by automated system. After 20 minutes figured no one would actually take our call, so hung up. We have already had old stove removed in preparation of new stove installation this weekend, which we have scheduled with an electrician. Since we cannot give him 24 hours cancellation notice, we now have to pay $50. We understand that things happen, but this is the second time that this has happened with your company (once 2 years ago). A phone call would have been both warranted and professional. We are angry and frustrated. We have no stove!

I just thought I'd point out that Appliances Online (Australia) has no connection whatsover with Appliances Online (UK).
  • We needed a washing machine urgently and made the mistake of ordering from Appliances Online (AO) . com because they promised to deliver quicker than anybody else. In the event on the day of delivery I got a phone call at work to say their vehicle could not get up our lane. At the time of ordering I specified no more than 7.5 tonnes GVW and they confirmed this was the vehicle they had. The simple fact is that Curry's, John Lewis, B&Q, various other courier companies 7.5t vehicles can get to us without problem along with the local builders merchants 18t wagon and my heating oil firms 25t 6 wheel tanker.

From the conversation I was having it was clear to me that their delivery driver simply wanted an excuse not to deliver.

I suggested that he park at the bottom of the lane and bring the washing machine up to the house on a sack barrow if he really could not drive up it -a matter of 100 metres. This I was told was impossible as they could not leave their vehicle unattended and it would take both of the lorry crew to manage the sack barrow.

They suggested my wife drives down the lane in her car - they would put the machine on it's side in her car and leave us to deal with it from there. I guess they would have been really disappointed if we said "OK" but as far as I am aware washing machines should not be transported on their side (they said it would be alright) and in any event we would have to accept delivery into the car and any subsequent risk of damage - they refused to help to unload the car 100 metres up the road. They drove off just as soon as my telephone conversation ended as they were gone withinn the minute or so it took my wife to walk down the lane to find them and challenge them over what the problem really was.

I find it incredible that companies offering this sort of service manage to stay in business. I will never touch them with a barge pole again.

Curry's are now going to deliver a machine in 4 days and given that their 7.5 t wagon bought us a freezer 8 weeks ago I have no doubt they'll be able to get to us again and without drama.

Unless you enjoy lots of stress I would recommend avoiding this Company like the plague.
