Whatever you do dont go anywhere near Chafford Hundred. Its a posh name for Grays and the property value is outrageous for what you get. Crime is also high in the area and the state schools appauling. Lived there, had to get out!

According to recent research, Chafford Hundred is the 5th richest area in the country Click Here

I live in Caterham and there are loads of 4 bed houses in the area and surrounding, like Old coulsdon,Oxted etc for around 400k,but if its the look you're after then those ones you have indicated look nice, can cost between 500k to 700k in these areas.
Horsham West Sussex is cheaper and also areas in Kent like Canterbury. These are all commuter areas taking less than 1 hour into London.

Yup, I'm in Bletchingley just down the road from Caterham, and there are plenty of 4 beds around the £400K mark, in the surrounding areas, but the nice ones with any sort of land will be double that.

That is fascinating reading (being a resident of Chafford - or Hundred Chavs as I like to call it). Thanks for posting those!

    Thanks for the replies.

Plenty to consider here. On intial glance Milton Keynes appears to be a place where you get a lot for your money. Does anyone have any experience with the area?

Obviously I wouldnt want to move to a place where crime is high etc etc as I would rather simply just move further out. I know its going to be difficult meeting my criteria and of course I would be willing to compromise on the size slightly but safety and good prospects e.g good schools etc are key.

I live in one of the old small towns on the edge of MK, been here since MK was just a village. I publish a couple of local community publications for areas of eastern MK - short commute to M1 J13 or 5 mins to CMK station. I've spent a lot of time walking round delivering through doors- nice parts you might look at are Middleton/Monkston/Monkston Park (new builds going up)/Old Farm Park/Caldecotte/Woughton/Woolstone. There are also some nice looking new builds going into Broughton and Woburn Sands
