plusnet changing terms but charging me to leave

In march I moved house and plusnet said if I agree to remain with them for a further 12 months there would not be a moving charge. so I agreed
In june 2010 my modem stopped working plusnet offered to replace it free apart from the postage cost providing I agree to stay with them on the same terms for 12 months so I am tied in to them until june 2011.
I have just received an email from them stating my monthly charge will be increased by £5 per month and if I decide to leave before june 2011 they will charge me for the modem and the moving house fee.
I emailed them but they sent me a waffley repliy. Surely they are in the wrong here, I do not have anything in writing we agreed the terms over the phone.

They are not charging you to leave, they are asking you to pay for the house move and router, you had the option of paying as for them at the time on the date they were provided or you could have them free on condition you stayed with them for twelve months, if you decide to leave before the twelve month periods are up you will be charged for them.0

Thanks or the reply.
What i am saying is plusnet made an agreement with me that they would provide the freebies but I must stay with them for the full 12 months and they would continue to charge me £23.24 per month until june 2011 apart from any vat increases.
I have kept my side of the bargain but they have now decided to increase the monthly charge by £5.
For example:
if you took out a credit card with anybank, they fix the interest to be charged saying its for 12 months then after 6 months decide to charge you double and if you leave they will charge you 00's would you be happy with that.
plusnet is doing the same to me.0 -
Try reading the terms & conditions you agreed when you joined Plusnet :-
Changing these Terms (notification)- Sometimes, we will need to change the charges and the Terms and Conditions of the service.
- If we have made a change which is to your material disadvantage, you will not have to pay a charge (excludes any charges or payments we have deferred) if you decide to end your agreement early, unless the price guide says otherwise.

I joined plusnet about 2 years ago and because they agreed brand new terms in june 2010 the original terms and conditions do not apply.0

no I dont they changed them
Which if you read the T & C they are allowed to doSometimes, we will need to change the charges and the Terms and Conditions of the service.
Can you provide a link where is says this site is for people to help each other, the site is to try to give advice to people, you asked a question I gave an answer just because it is not what you want to hear and you do not like the advice given does not mean it is not correct, however if you think you can get away without paying the deferred charges best of luck to you.0 -
Cajef you are wrong!
If Plusnet are choosing to the raise the price of the service then your entitled to cancel/ MAC out without charge.
A part of the contract the OP agreed to included the price, so whilst they are entitled to modify the contract, the OP can also require the original price is retained or consider the contract cancelled. In this circumstance, they could not recover the cost of the house move or router as it's them that are effectively terminating the contract. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Not if that increase is within the Terms & Conditions or is a VAT increase .

Cajef's first posts were right. They are not charging you a cancellation fee.
You're slightly misstating what you agreed with Plus. The agreement you made in June 2010 was that they would give you a free router if you stayed with them for 12 months. You could have paid for it upfront and they are now asking for you to pay for it since you are leaving early.
The underlined part was not part of the deal to get a new router.
Plusnet is not charging you to leave. They are having you pay charges they deferred (exactly like the T&Cs said). If you had paid the moving fee and paid for the router upfront, you could leave for free.0
