Have passed by it many a time.

Thank YOU for the hug too ... get yourself tucked up lass and stay cosy! I am off to my bed now and think I will cosy up with a hot water bottle ... that's another thing I learned this winter, that I won't be without my wheat bag and hot water bottle.

    Nightie night xxx
Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far! :)
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!

(((((Cranky))))) sounds like you sure had a good 'un. I can't imagine how much you must miss him but by gollly, if he is watching over you he must be so proud of how you're coping.

I couldn't agree more Nuala, I imagine Cranky's DH was, and probably still is, very proud of her. Despite her own problems, she was a great source of comfort to me when I needed it and I wish I had the words to express my thanks and respect for her. Cranky your little son is so very lucky to have you as a mum. :A

The main thing the bad weather has taught me is to always pay attention when walking in snow, no matter how good you think your footwear is. In an effort to be prepared I invested in a pair of fleece lined flat, ribbed, rubber soled boots. We took the children sledging on Sunday and I was the only one who managed to stay upright in my shiny new boots. Well they say pride comes before a fall, how right they are....

The following Wednesday there was so much snow that I thought it better to attempt to walk DS to school rather than risk taking the car. I was confident because of my new boots...far too confident, and I slipped and went down like a sack of spuds. :o I spent ages in A&E and now have torn ligaments. Eight days later and I'm still in pain, limping badly and unable to work this weekend.

Just a warning to anyone who like me is tempted to think they'll be fine...please take care and stay safe.

The snow arrived as I was out shopping, thawed partially as it hit pavements and then froze again. Boy, was I grateful for my trike. I don't know if anyone else has considered an adult's trike as a stop-gap (too disabled to walk far, but still able to cycle a trike and too mobile for a mobility scooter) Mine is wonderful. He got me home safely with shopping that was far too heavy to have even carried from a taxi.
I am a little worried about the roads for my son, who drives to work, though.

Can I just add how heartwarming I have found many of the posts here? Loving hugs to all who would like one. What a lovely forum this is....

  • I learnt that having a tv in the bedroom is a godsend. We never had one in the bedroom for 41 years and we needed to put the second tv somewhere when we moved. It is so cosy watching from about 9-10.30 all tucked up and cosy, instead of dozing on the sofa and waking up again on going to bed

I will emphasise to my family that yes really we cannot get out the village if we get ANY snow or ice as the steep hilly lanes all around are not gritted so we will not be able to get to the station, 5 miles away to pick them up if they get train tickets, like for this weekend. We are now on tenterhooks and do not want the worry so please no booked train travel in thedepths of winter. Am now watching the weather constantly re arrival saturday and departure sunday. Looks very like snow here
  • Its all this learning curve stuff that we hear about - god I hate that expression. They say that fate never deals you anything it thinks you cant cope with - well in that case I should be a flippping saint. Right now coping with what the elements are chucking at me is a real test of coping. I have been learning this life stuff for yonks now and I would like to know when am I going to pass (no time for revision) the exam! Today, I am learning nothing. Full stop. Nothing, nadir, zilch, nowt.
