    Why do you disagree?

    Candidate 2: RacyRed

Characteristics: Bit of a sheep & has trouble with letters

  • Oh.

& If you want revenge on Hays & if you are in a position like you say you are to use them. ;) :rotfl:

Wouldn't it be better revenge to drag them in, refuse to deal with that particular consultant, reject their fees & dismiss their massive candidate database which may include the best person for the job that you have the obligation of helping to find by the company you are employed by.

One thing I have noticed about the replies on this thread is that there have been NO recruitment agents defending themselves......

it would be interesting to hear if any of them disagree with things that have been said here.

    :xmastree:

I have said a few words in defence of agencies in my post as a past agent. It is a bit long winded but hopefully explains why they operate in many of the ways they do

Purpose of job = make money

Following up leads where businesses are recruiting = possibly make money

Responding to 200 emails a day giving candidates a personal update on the situation = doesn't make any money

& anyone that thinks any different is in denial about what a recruitment agency is & the purpose of its role.

Then perhaps they need to set up their computer system to at least send an automatic/standard email;)

Many, many moons ago when we did not have the facility for email, but customer service standards were far better across the board, many of those recruiters would have spent long periods of time answering the phone and talking to individuals about the circumstances: that needs to be an integral part of their job now as well. They offer a two-fold service, they need to be service orientated to both the employer and the candidate or should get out of a service industry.

We are far too easily persuaded that poor service, lack of discretion, and outright greed are acceptable these days, hence the fact that the Country really is a rip-off!

  • I saw a role advertised on Hays website, emailed them to reflect my interest and I was informed that the entry on there was purely speculative and that the client was still deciding which agent to use !

Doesn't matter. Most firms limit themselves to a couple of agencies anyway and most candidates are registered with multiple agencies.

Ergo, the *right* candidate's CV will cross her desk, but Hays will not get the fee.

Hays really can be silly. I once registered as a temp with them at a time when my skills were in very great demand. They were really snotty with me, told me the hourly rate I was looking for was unrealisticly high and that they wanted to give me a panel interview at their offices before they would deem to take me onto their books.

The next day I called them back to tell them to forget about it. I'd found myself an excellent job at a higher rate than I'd first asked for, been interviewed and offered the post all in the space of 3 hours.

They'd had the job notification that morning but had sat on their hands and had done nothing with it. They still tried to claim the fee though and as a result of that were told where to go by the employer and not used again.

As I'd not had their panel interview I wasn't officially on their books, as they had made a very big point of telling me.
My first reply was witty and intellectual but I lost it so you got this one instead :D

Surely 1984 you are not THAT short-sighted and naive to believe that by me not using Hays to recruit, my chances of finding that perfect employee are going to be seriously limited? Do you honestly believe that agencies are the only way of recruiting? I was clearly giving you more credit than you deserved.

Perhaps you are the one who has "no clue" (your description of myself and others posting on here).

One thing we do know, and the only thing we really need to know, is that the very last thing recruitment agencies care about are the people who make them their money. And that is THE WORKERS.

Complet and utter crap and !!!!!!!!! Spouted by someone with an axe to grind.

Not all consultants are like that at all. I have had a bunch of flowers last week and a tin of roses this week from CANDIDATES whom I have found their dream job.

To the OP who asked why no consultants are in here defending themselves, it's a waste of time. No one listens. Even when we try and be helpful. You all know better. Check my previous posts.

You think consultants are sneaky and underhanded and yet you're advocating lying to peoples faces to get a job. Right. Good one. Candidates lie, are unreliable and most of them aren't worth wasting time on to be fair.

As for chasing past employers to see if we can work with them - what the hell else do you think we do? Sit here filing our nails waiting for the phone to ring. If we didn't chase companies for work for YOU you'd be sat here !!!!!ing about how agencies don't try hard enough to find YOU a job!

Lol! I don't have an axe to grind at all!

And what I have said is based on on my experiences during a long career. It is fact, not conjecture.

Where is anyone advocating lying to people's faces to get a job?

What HAS been advocated is being very careful with the information you give to an agency, because it can be used to your detriment. There are too many of us with direct experience of this for there not to be some truth in it and by sharing it we might make the job finding process a little less stressful for other candidates.

But of course, we are making recruitment agents' jobs a little more difficult by suggesting the supression a lucrative source of their information - us!
Candidates lie, are unreliable and most of them aren't worth wasting time on to be fair

You say that and wonder why the low opinion is returned?

There are good and bad agencies and good and bad agents within them. This thread is simply highlighting some of the pitfalls for the unwary.

if an agency should offer you any temp work, do not say you have any holiday booked if they ask you. If you have, you will almost certainly be ruled out of the role. They want people to work for short term contracts who have no holiday commitments. Just lie to them like they will lie to you and leave and take your holiday when necessary.

from one of the most prolific agency bashers on these boards. A great example of a candidate agencies will want to help. Take advice like this at your own risk!

And now I shall bow out of this thread. I have to call ANOTHER candidate back (who cried this morning when I told her she'd got one of the jobs I submitted her for) with her start date. The job she's wanted for ages. And a £4k salary rise thanks to my negotiation with the client.

But yes - we're all the same aren't we? ;)
