This is just a little warning to others who are using agencies - do not tell them ANYTHING that they do not need to know. They are ruthless and will stab you in the back.
That would be all Recruitment Agencies and their method of working then?
Have you ever been employed as a recruitment consultant?0 -

In addition I refer you to an as yet unanswered question I asked a recruitment agent earlier in this discussion
The fact you feel you have to ask that question & feel the requirement for me to answer it just shows me how much of a worthless thread this is.
Its not informative or helpful. It doesn't have a point, constructive or not.
I have told you why not all consultants answer emails, I have told you why they look for information & I have told you a bit more (quite more).
Now next time you go to a Recruitment Consultant for help trying to find you a job you need to think:
Why is a company going to pay this agency circa £3000-£20000 (or more) to employ me above everyone else with better skills & more experience that they come across?
It certainly won't be because of your ability to understand the operation of a commercial business & its purpose in the market place.
Best think about something else & work on it.Not Again0 -

Why? It is a valid question. You have forgotten the example made in the opening post. The OP was offered a job and a recruitment agency tried to steal it out from under her. The value of this thread is in bringing this type of underhand activity to the attention of others who may not have been aware that this can happen.
I'm giving you the opportunity to tell us that actions like this are frowned upon and punished within the industry. Will you take it?

And that is appreciated. Thank you.

Actually, it is because I'm a highly qualified and experienced candidate with an excellent work record. I also interview very well and invariably get the roles I interview for. That hasn't stopped recruitment agencies trying to shaft me.

That is a pretty sweeping assumption. I think I've shown that I understand commerciality very well.
Yet again you choose to ignore the point of this thread, which is to warn others of some of the practices being used by employment agencies. There is nothing wrong with that.
The attitude of the majority of recruitment agents who have posted here speaks volumes to be honest. My first reply was witty and intellectual but I lost it so you got this one instead

Okay I think battle lines have been drawn, isn't it time to walk away from this thread?~*~ If you don't need it, it isn't a bargain ~*~0

No, let's keep going!! All they are doing is publicising this thread even more, which can only benefit honest, unsuspecting job seekers who have to use an agency.
Unfortunately, I think the recruitment 'consultants' that are posting here are still missing the original point (and seem unable to justify or defend their actions in this regard), which is:
CANDIDATES- Do NOT give any information to any recruitment agencies regarding your other job applications/offers. They will use this info to hassle that company and possibly try and swipe the job offer from beneath your feet.0 -

I have to say from an employer's POV, i have been dissuaded from using an employment agency in the future.
We have had experience (of different agencies, not the one mentioned, but more than one), and in different instances have had agencies put forward candidates with no qualifications, for a clearly advertised qualified position. In addition, one agency tried to up their fee after taking on a candidate, after the candidate in question showed up for a week only, walked out saying he wasn't happy as the job wasn't what he'd 'signed up for' (3 month trial) and never showed up again.
From an employee PoV, I have registered with an agency in the past, had the "what kind of work do you want / are you qualified discussion", and was then offered nothing, except 2hrs cleaning in a school 30mins drive from where i lived, to start that afternoon. Needless to say, having spent 6wks registered with them, I had by this time found a suitable office role myself, and was asked to be taken off their books.0 -

Did you do a search for agencies on this board before thinking you were indeed the only person to start a thread on this issue?
I would add delusions of grandeur to your skill set.
I think I am now in a position to put money on why exactly the consultant did not want to deal with you.Not Again0 -

What speaks volumes in your continued failure of comprehend the role of a recruitment consultant & agency.
I have come across many people I would refuse to deal with because of their attitude & inability to listen.
You would be on that list & so would the OP.
If you decide not to give information to a consultant so be it. However if the consultant decides you are deliberately hiding information & not telling the truth because you do not trust the consultant & they are aware of it (& its nearly always quite easy to spot this with experience) you should expect repercussions as a result.
Great advice guys. Keep it up....
No wonder someone wasn't bothered about working with you.Not Again0
