I registered with an agency for temp work a while back but they only offered me one role, which I turned down as the money was poor and I didn't want to get trapped in that job meaning they would not bother looking for anything else for me. I must have sent her about 4 emails after that asking if they had any work for me and she never even bothered to reply!!

I just emailed her to say I now had a permanent role so she can remove me from the database. She replied (literally within 5 minutes!)"congratulations, where are you working?"

Needless to say, I will not replying!

This is what I found when I was registered with agencies, sending countless emails enquiring if there was any work and phonecalls which were ignored. I bet if you emailed them saying you had a job lead or knew somewhere that had an immediate vacancy to fill, they would email you back straight away.

Don't tell them where you are working what ever you do.Next thing they will be getting the name of your new boss or HR manager pestering them to see if they have more vacancies.Knowing some of these horrible people they might even tell them to withdraw the job offer if it has not yet been made as they have a better candidate.

Ever think about why they do not respond?

Perhaps if they did respond to all emails all they would be doing is responding to emails all day.

More than likely that is all they had at the time so if they need to fill something in the future they would call more "flexible" people.
My thoughts are not to be naive about these people. They are in it for the cash - not for your benefit. Cynical? maybe, but I've had a lot of experience helping these guys structure their businesses.

I do not know why you put the angry face in. Recruitment is a sales role in a business driven by profit & reward. Recruitment Agencies are not the Jobcentre or Citizens Advice.

If the employer did withdraw an offer I think it would say a lot more about the "horrible" employer rather than the agency.

Lets face it, you would have to be a complete nutter to take the word of a stranger telling you to go back on your word because they have a piece of paper showing a better candidate & them telling you they are better and nicer. ;)

  • Recruiters are a necessary evil...it's easy enough to say 'avoid them', but it's nearly impossible when almost all the jobs listed online are attached to a recruiter. In fact, I would be wary about applying for jobs that aren't being handled by recruiters (for various reasons).

I've had nightmares with them, including the problems mentioned here about them sniffing out other jobs you're applying for & not being able to rely on them to negotiate for you, plus pet peeves such as:

    - Recruiters randomly going on holiday and not leaving anyone to cover so you miss out on 2nd interviews, deadlines etc. (happens ALL the time)
    - One recruiter who didn't pass my CV on to the company before the deadline & then tried to blame *me* for it
    - Recruiters who call you up to ask if it's ok to email you
    - Recruiters who send out emails to hundreds of people about 1 job
    - Recruiters who use your contact details to contact you about random jobs you aren't qualified for or interested in (despite spending ages asking you exactly what you're interested in & having a copy of your CV)
    - Recruiters who are condescending and treat you like a child

    I'm sure there are more...

Luckily, I've finally found a job I really enjoy :)
  • These agencies are good, atleast they giving us some kind of platform the find a job. but another hand some are not good.

You totally missed my point and can I suggest when you quote someone elses text you quote all the text and not just the text that you want to make your point with. My point was that if I emailed the agency stating that I had a job lead or know of a position that immediately needs to be filled. I bet that they would respond to me straight away. So they can only respond to emails etc when it suits them !!!!!

Probably agree with You there, but it still would not be beneath recruitment agency staff to attempt this.

I would say it would be about 1 in 15 across the board that would give it a go.

They wouldn't last long because they would lose repeat business & be out the door within 12 months because they could no longer do the volume in sales.

Quite funny that she had the time to respond (rather quickly) to ask me where my job offer was, but did not find the time to say "sorry, we have nothing right now" when I was enquiring about jobs.....
