One thing I have noticed about the replies on this thread is that there have been NO recruitment agents defending themselves......

it would be interesting to hear if any of them disagree with things that have been said here.

    :xmastree:

Original Response - Sorry. Just to make things clear. I disagree with nearly everything you have said. You & many other have no clue as to what an agency is, its function & the role of a recruitment consultant. (14 years experience in recruitment agencies & the management of them) Now if you expect the MD of Manpower to come on here & justify their actions to people than do not even understand the purpose I think you will be waiting a long long time.

Additional Note - You will see above that I have highlighted the OPs comments. From this point on you will see that these comments are completely untrue. You will read the opinions of circa 6 people with a great deal of experience being dismissed & people with a good experiences to report of agencies & recruitment consultants being brushed over as if they were a one off.

There are 3 regular anti-agency posters on this thread & if you look at their posting history you will see that they not only have a habit of it but also try to force their opinions on others & dominate the thread to destruction.

In addition you will read my responses to sarcastic comments of these individuals until it comes to the point that I am fully clear on their agenda. It does not take me too long from here to work things out. Also I do take particular offence to someone implying I am a liar & would misinform candidates.

Please keep in mind the objectives of certain people on this thread before you consider possibly damaging your relationship with a recruitment consultant before its even started.

    Have fun reading..
    ;)

    Aren't they arrogant.

MD of Manpower does not = recruitment agent
Therefore, I do not believe I am waiting for anything from him. I was talking about a much lower level than MD.

I was aware the you were disagreeing with everything, so no need to clarify.

As already stated, myself and others on here ARE aware of the purpose of agencies. It is their underhand, sneaky, back-stabbing tactics that we were not perhaps aware of. And that is the reason for this thread - to bring it to the attention of other, trusting individuals who have the unfortunate need to use the services of such agents.

I hate them too, but for slightly different reasons based on my experience.

I hate the way they pretend to listen to what you will and wont do in a future role.

I couldn't have made it clearer that I didn't want to be stuck on phones all day.
They rang me and said they had a temping job that would just be some data entry.

When I got to the job, I was told i'd be calling people to chase up references on behalf of another company and would be making hundreds of phonecalls per day.
The office was a horrible place full of !!!!!y women.
I also felt completely 'in the way'. There was no room on a desk for me and so they wheeled in an old chair and stuck me on the corner of someone elses desk who was already working and I felt like such an unwanted nuisance!
I tried my best, but i'm rubbish on the phones (as I had warned the agency) and was let go after a week

This sort of thing has happened about 4 or 5 times.
Them just lying to you about the role simply to get you into ANY job so that they can take a nice cut of your wages.
I really really dislike them and I WISH that more companies advertised for jobs, because it does seem that 90% of vacancies are advertised through agencies.

I must confess that ONE of my MANY agency jobs worked out very well.
Within 1 day they found me a job that was 5 minutes walk from where i live (which is out in the sticks so it was totally unexpected).
I worked there for about 6 months, and then I began working directly for the company

It's good to hear a positive story, I'm glad you have found something :xmassmile

I realise that they are basically middle-men/women who are only in it for the commission but back-stabbing is really not the best idea. The agent at Hays who tried to do that to me has now shot himself in the foot as I am responsible in my new role for any initial recruitment drives so, if it turns out that we have to use an agency (which I will avoid at all costs) then I will not be using that one!

So maybe they need to realise that their candidates could eventually become their clients in the future.....

    You have to love it!

    Why do you disagree?

Because we are sharing tips on here that will make it harder for recruitment agencies to deceive anyone who has read this?

Because we are not behaving like the timid forelock tugging sheep that recruitment agencies would like us to be?

One thing we do know, and the only thing we really need to know, is that the very last thing recruitment agencies care about are the people who make them their money. And that is THE WORKERS.
My first reply was witty and intellectual but I lost it so you got this one instead :D

    Good stuff.
    That'll learn 'em! ;)

And regarding my job, unfortunately they went into liquidation as they were hit hard by the recession with a complete lack of orders coming in and I am now out of work.

    Giss a job....:D
