  • Hi everyone

We've had to remove a lot of posts from this thread. Of course you're all entitled to your views of recruitment agencies (in general) and the thread's a good debate on the subject, but your opinions can be put across in a mature way without it getting personal.

By all means please do carry on discussing the subject but in a friendly manner to help us keep the thread open.

To the OP - we'd like to change the title - can you suggest one that's less likely to cause immediate harsh responses please and I'll change it?

    Thank you

    Andrea :)

You make it sound like there is some big conspiracy here. it is a small minority who do not already know these things.

Not at all. Like I have said in many posts, the main point I am referring to is when RCs question their clients about their other applications in order to use this information for marketing. I think it is unaccepable for an RC to try and push candidates for roles that another candidate has innocently told them about. But as it clearly is something that happens, I have learnt from that and will take that into account if i should need the services of an RC in the future. Not knowing this happens is not lack of business awareness. It is about not expecting someone go behind your back like this.

On a separate note of the non-existant vacancy advertising mentioned in other posts, one RC has kindly confirmed that this does happen, although apparently it is not her fault that candidates assume an advert on a window is a real job and not just an idea of possible roles in the future. When asked at what point she would actually inform the candidate that the job was not real, she declined to answer and went off on one. Perhaps she is in the minority but i would be interested to hear when a candidate would be informed of the truth.

It seems that these business practices are all about duping the candidate.

I did not "go off on one" at all. I will say it for one final time, the candidates are not being "duped" If they don't have enough about them when it comes to reading whats actually been written then god help them when it comes to signing contracts of any kind!

Lily, you have your opinion, and it's quite clear this is never going to change. You have been given numerous explanations which you either ignore or twist into something else to argue about. MSE should be ashamed of having people like you as one of it's members.

So are you actually saying that your adverts clearly state that the advert is not real? Maybe I misunderstood you. Perhaps you could give us a copy of what your advert actually says so we can see which bit the candidate does not read?

Lily, you are just being arguamentative again. I have already clearly told you what the adverts state. I have said before, I am not going to justify my actions to you. There are clear guidelines for Recruitment Agencies and I do not break any of them in my day to day work. Whether you agree with these guidelines or not, is for you to take them up with the REC and the Government who issue them, NOT with the Recruitment Agencies who follow them.

Calm down! Just because you don't want to discuss something, it doesn't make me argumentative.

If you don't want to show what your advert says, that is entirely up to you. If I was in your position and convinced everything was above board, I would not hesitate to prove that. Your anger just makes it look like you are hiding something so up to you if you want to be perceived like that.

I have never said anything about not agreeing with any regulated guidelines. Whether agencies adhere to these guidelines is another matter.
  • convinced everything was above board

These things generally ARE above board Lily. You may view them as underhand, but that does not mean that is the case.

She said "My adverts do not state 'currently available' my adverts state 'we are always happy to hear from *insert job title here* with the following skills for this type of company.' "

That does not break any guidelines, and as it's in the wondow of an Employment Agency, it is clearly an invitation to register your details, and not a specific job.

How does that not answer your question?
"On behalf of teachers, I'd like to dedicate this award to Michael Gove and I mean dedicate in the Anglo Saxon sense which means insert roughly into the anus of." My hero, Mr Steer.
  • Ahem... everyone please stop, take a deep breath, and count to ten. Peace, love and goodwill to all, whether you agree with them or not :)
