Not at all. OK then she gets to interview. They see her bump. Are you by any chance pregnant..? Yes i am. Oh ok that's for coming we'll let you know..
Or. do you have any medical conditions that may stop you from doing the job or any other jobs you maybe required to do.
Well i should let you know i am pregnant is what any responsibile person would say. Oh ok, thanks for attending we'll let you you know.
And you know what they are saying when they say that. Thanks but no thanks.
So what is she to claim ESA for? Remind me again as I must have missed it
Plenty people get offered a job whilst visibly pregnant - especially if it's a Christmas job and they are run off their feet.
And even if the OP doesn't think she will get any work she still has to apply (in the correct manner) to get her benefit money.0 -
I have read this thread in its entiriety (spelling?) and have been dismayed by what I have read.
The irony is that I am disappointed by my own opinion on this !
I think that it is outrageous that people can recommend benefit fraud. I also think that it is outrageous that in this civilised society we are looking to deny an eighteen year old pregnant vulnerable girl our help. How would you feel if this was your daughter ?
Equally, I also find it outrageous that someone can get themselves into this position. Pregnant at eighteen, no partner, no job or money and yet the country has to pay for it all from the housing costs to weekly cash payouts when this could have been avoided. I feel as though we are all being mugged.
I am ashamed that I think the latter but am being honest as I can truly see both sides of the argument.
In due consideration I would rather she was helped than left to struggle but there surely has to be a better way. Perhaps us British need to educate our young with the principles of starting families (accidental or otherwise) when we can afford to pay the bills and/or that they will be brought up in a stable household both financially and emotionally.
Am I the only one who can see both sides of the story and has sympathy with this vulnerable girl but angry and used at the same time that the tax payer has to pick up the bill yet again ?
I can also see both sides and situations like this leave me torn. Accidents happen and we all make mistakes - it does sometimes feel like it's happening again and again - but I would hate to see a vulnerable person suffer simply because they have made a mistake.
Having said that, I know that the OP has said that she has her own bills to pay and lives in a small house but as the sanction is only for a few weeks (I originally assumed it was for 26 weeks), I find it hard to understand why she cannot support her daughter during this time - how much money/food would she need to tough it out for two/three weeks? It might be a matter of principle, but as OP is working and presumably daughter was living at home until relatively recently (apologies if I have got this wrong but I'm guessing this from her age), there really is no need for her daughter to be freezing and starving. Even if it means basic range shopping items, having her evening meal at (mothers) home and putting money on the electric meter instead of buying her a christmas present.0 -

Crap...........
I would get signed off for the stress of it all. I am sure most doctors would do that. before i moved to my present location i had to go and see a doctor for arthritis that i was refered to by the jsa, he said because i was moving he would sign me for 6 months till i am settled in. (I kid you not)..>!!0 -

Unless the stress is actually affecting your mental health its not enough to be signed off for 6 months.
I have severe mental heath problems and i was only signed off for a month at a timeThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Yeah, well done Nicky. You have someone who thinks like you - do you feel nice and vindicated now?
Not at all, but i think you need to take a step back re-read the posts and see there are only two peoples posts that stand out as ludicrous !!
I don't think anyone's posts are 'ludicrous'...everyone has an opinion and just because you don't agree with what was being said was wrong in your eyes, makes it wrong full stop.0 -

Perhaps why the present reforms of sickness benefit are necessary.
The young lady involved in this thread is not sick. She is pregnant."If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
